  1. Hello! I've had a Pilot Decimo for probably just around a year now. It's got a F nib, and I have a CON-50 converter installed. I've always used the same ink in it (I believe it's Diamine's Majestic Purple). I've never had any problems with it either, it's worked perfectly! Then, a few months ago (1-2) months, the ink flow just became terrible. It skips, sometimes completely stops, and is terrible to right with. I have to trace my letters five time before you can actually see the entire letter with no skips. I've cleaned out the pen fully (I used just water, I've never used any soap or an
  2. Hello all. I'm pretty new to FPN, and I'm wondering if you can help me with a question about the authenticity of my Pilot Vanishing Point Decimo. I received the pen today, and when I opened it up to put in some ink I noticed that the nib is unlike any other Pilot VP nib I have ever seen. I have been looking online for hours, but I can't find a single image of a Pilot VP nib that looks like what I have in front of me. I'm thinking that I might have received a counterfeit. Has anybody ever seen or even heard of a Pilot VP nib that looks like this one does? Image Link (because the site i
  3. So, I was just thinking over the state of my EDC pen flock, and noted that the one niche in my daily routine not yet filled by a fountain pen is a true pocket carry pen. My previous pen for this purpose, one of those Zebra compact telescopic ballpoints, has just been demoted from pocket carry status because its cap-top jewel had an annoying tendency to work itself loose once every couple of days, causing the jewel, the pen clip, and a washer under the cap jewel to fall off - into my pocket if I'm lucky, or more often, strewn on the sidewalk leaving me to retrace my steps for a good number of m
  4. Hello. I am hoping someone could answer a few questions about the VP & Decimo pens if able, for lack of seeing the pen in person before ordering, mainly about the nibs: 1-I am under the impression that the matte black VP in medium might be a lot wetter than the medium Decimo, something about the intended market. Is that correct? If so, how does the medium nib in the Decimo and the VP compare to, say, the Metropolitan medium? 2-If the VP & Decimo are different in actual nib size, are the special alloy (capless) and the Decimo 18k the same actual size? (That is, their mediums are

    Japan Exclusives

My daughter will be in Japan, outside of Tokyo, for some time and I would like to give her specific instructions on bringing me back pens. The yen is strengthening so I am more interested in pens that are exclusive to the Japanese market than in ones that might be cheaper over there. Is my best bet to give her a budget and tell her to get pens that are exclusive to the store she is in? She'll be there long enough to search out bungbox. I wouldn't mind a Decimo in a color we can't get stateside, either. Thanks everyone!
  6. Hi all I bought this Decimo last year with an EF nib. Never used it very much at all. I have learned that I don't prefer the narrow line of a japanese EF nib. So, last week while perusing Classic F Pens site, I thought why not try a John Mottishaw modified Architect Point (grind). Received it yesterday. See the picture below. https://www.flickr.com/photos/126999499@N06/33180623081/in/dateposted-public/

    Pilot E95S Vs Decimo

Hi, I'm planning a surprise gift for the wife by end of April. Which would you recommend, a Pilot E95s or a VP Decimo?
  8. I'm thinking of buying a Pilot Capless. However, I haven't seens a reliable comparison of the line widths. I have heard that the medium nib is like a European medium, but it varies quite a lot from pen to pen. Is this still the case. I have also heard that the fine nib is like a Japanese fine. This makes me consider the fine-medium nib, however it only come in one finish and is nearly twice the price of the standard finishes. I know it's quite a lot to ask, but... Does anyone have a comparison that shows the line widths? Preferably compared with Custom 74 medium and Metropolitan medium and

  10. According to Goulet Pens and Anderson Pens, the Pilot Decimo is coming to the US! I know I could always order online from Jetpens and vendors overseas, but this is still great news to have the Decimo finally officially here. I prefer the Decimo over the Vanishing Point as it's thinner, lighter and at least for me the clip is a much more comfortable design.
  11. Hello. I plan on buying an 18k VP (probably a Decimo) in the near future, and I am considering alternating between nib assemblies rather than whole pens because of high cost, since apparently it is easy to keep an inked nib assembly from drying out, ready to switch quickly, unlike with most nib switching in other pens. Anybody knows about good prices on VP nib assemblies? A not so recent review suggested they can be had for about $35, but I have not found anything for less than about $61, which is not far from a whole capless steel nib pen, and waiting patiently for some big discounts on a
  12. Hi, I have some questions about the smoothness and fineness of nibs between Pilot Vanishing Point and Pilot Custom Heritage 92/Custom 74. I have Pilot Decimo with a fine nib and I like the smoothness and fineness of this nib, but it is little heavy for long writing. While I was searching for a smooth, lightweight, and fine fountain pen for long writing, someone has recommended me Pilot Custom Heritage 92. I see it has pretty good reputation in this forum. Thus, I would like to know more about the nibs of this pen. As I said, I like the fineness and smoothness of my Decimo fine nib. How i
  13. Hi, I have a new Pilot VP Decimo EF that I'd like to get a nice strong, smudge-proof, long lasting black ink for. I mostly wrote either in Field Notes notebooks, or Leuchtterm1917 notebooks. I'd very much appreciate any suggestions! Many thanks, pt
  14. Hi, After researching for my next fountain pen for long time, I have decided to get Pilot Decimo Dark Grey EX. However, one of the Japanese sellers that I contacted said that there is no Dark Grey with EX nib. I wonder if this is true. Is there anyone who knows a seller who sells Pilot Decimo Dark Grey with EX nib? I have checked Amazon, eBay, jetpens, and other websites but couldn't find it. Also, I see that some posts say Pilot VP nib and Pilot Decimo nib are interchangeable, and some other posts say that some adjustment should be done for Pilot VP nib to be used in Pilot Decimo. I wond
  15. Hello everyone, This is my first thread after having stalked the forum anonymously for quite some time. I'm buying a Pilot VP Decimo for note-taking in classes, and in the near future, at work. It will be an upgrade from a Sheaffer 100 with M nib as my second, more serious pen. (No grip problem for me) The questions are: 1. M or F nib: a line comparison from someone with Sheaffer M is appreciated, I will be writing a lot of mathematical equations on normal to poor quality paper. I'm leaning to F. 2. How glossy is the gray one: I prefer matted texture but if the glossiness is not really

    Pilot/ Namiki Nib

I own a beautiful Pilot/ Namiki "Capless" Vanishing Point pen- it's a Decimo, which is slightly slimmer and lighter than the regular VP pens, but takes the same nib- and I LOVE it. I have heard that the nibs for these pens are not well standardized. A few weeks after getting my pen, I broke the nib and had to replace it (rather a costly accident, but nevertheless). The nib size of my pen was, and is, a Fine; but I notice the new nib does not write quite as fine a 'Fine' line as the previous, original nib did. I liked the thinner line (didn't want to go to "Extra Fine", because I thought an

    Decimo Nib Section Leaking?

Hey guys, I bought a decimo from Japan's rakuten (had a friend recieve it in Japan for me ) and then when I put in the converter CON50 I think, the... metal bit got stuck when I tried to pull out the converter? I don't know how to get it out now. And now I'm worried it might be causing it to leak: It keeps smearing ink when I click it open. I don't know if this is because the ink is Noodler's Bad Belted Kingfisher, or whether it's from the converter issue. Should I try diluting the ink to see if that will fix the issue?
  18. Are the differences between the Pilot Vaishing Point and the Pilot Capless Decimo enough to justify the extra $100 for the Decimo?
