Hello! I'm a Singaporean studying in the UK, and I've been using a Platinum Plasir as my trusty daily writing implement for quite some time. Recently got interested in exploring the wider world of pens, especially in terms of vintage pen collection and restoration. My current collection includes the aforementioned Platinum, a vintage Wyvern with an engraved flexi gold nib, a marbled extra-fine Osmiroid, and a few cheaper plastic pens I got when starting out. Looking forward to learning more and making new friends on this forum? :D

I just stopped at a garage sale looking for a couple outdoor chairs and to see if there were any pens. There were not, but... the sale is from people who had owned a pack and ship store. They have these post box units, with keys, seven in all. They want them gone. "Make me an offer," they say... I think they would be great for inks, out-of-service pens, etc. I could choose as many sections as I wish. I've looked online and such things are pricey, but they want to be rid of them. They are warm metal. Getting ready to return with spouse and tape measure. Not sure if this is impulsive in the grand sense, as I have thought about this before, but I certainly didn't plan on doing anything like this NOW! Gulp.

Some of you may remember a thread I started a couple of weeks ago about a feed we discovered repairing a woodgrain lever pen: Well, I'm still none the wiser about the origins of the pen or the feed, but here is Part II of the story... After cleaning the rust and the remnants of the old coil, I attempted to replace with a new coil. However, the top lug of the feed snapped, revealing a rusted metal core (about a 10mm long) running through the feed. You can see the core on the feed side: This is the other half on the lug that snapped off: So this is the question that puzzles me: Is that metal core supposed to be there? If so, there is no explanation for the tubular channel in the middle of the feed, and the hole in the lug at the top: On the other hand, if it is not supposed to be there, how did it come to be? And should I attempt to remove it and create a flow through the core of the feed, before re-attaching the top lug? Any suggestions to solve the mystery, gratefully appreciated! Thanks George

What brand to you see as underestimated in the marketplace and with collectors? For me, it's Wearever, I have several and they are great pens. I have three Zenith pens with gold nibs, all are great writers and less than $25. I have a Burgandy colored pen with Parker Brown ink and it writes smooth with just a hint of feedback on some paper. The pen is always ready to write, which is more than I can say for some of my better brand pens. One of my newest pens is a Pennant. This pen has a unique nib advertised to always be ready to write. It's a medium, but closer to a fine medium. What's cool about the nib is that when you flip it over and reverse write, it does a good job and makes a nice extra fine line. More toothy, but not unusable by any stretch. Everyone is gaga about Esterbrook, which was in the same market as Wearever, but their pens are more in demand. Few have gold nib and none of those can be bought for a $20. I'm sure there are some Wearevers that aren't vintage, just rubbish, but that goes for all brands.

I am quite interested in buying a Parker 45 after using Camlin 47 for almost a decade now. I don't know what will be the ideal pricing of Parker 45 . I see lots of being sold on the several FB groups, plastic barrel and flighter model both. Any suggestions and recommendations of the things to look for in a Parker 45 regarding the pricing or whether the pen is genuine or not. I am in search of Parker 45 flighter(steel nib) with a budget of Rs. 1500. Will it be enough or should I extend my budget?
