Is this a Woodex 35?

I got it at a pen-club meeting, and the prior owner didn't remember anything more than "it's an Indian-made pen"

I've never seen anything like it 'till I clicked the PDF caltalog @hari317 posted at the start of this thread.

I love what an oddball pen it is, but it's definitely a desk pen -- no way to carry this "nib up"

When I got it, there was some very dried-up ink, and I put it in an ultrasonic cleaner so long it shook off the trim-rings on one side. Was thinking about trying to fill those in with air-dry clay or something one of these days.

It could be from any of the numerous pen makers in India.

Woodex Model 56:

This is a double headed pen as opposed to a double sided pen. Designed for pocket carry but slightly large size. One side has a JoWo no 6 threaded section which you can use with a std int cartridge or you can pour ink directly into the barrel(2.5ml). The other side has a friction fit Indian no 5.5 nib over an ebonite feed. This side is regular filling (ED) only with a 0.7ml ink capacity.

I have been using one for a few months now. Zero dryouts. Reliable performer and lovely craftsmanship like most Woodex pens.

Two color options. The right side one looks yellow but is khaki brown in real life.

the nibs are oriented 90degress relatively. So when you switch sides the nib always faces up. Try it.

HEIC figures are Apple-specific and not all of us have an iPhone or iMac. Would it be possible to get the images as PNG or JPEG files, please?

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

With other Indian pen companies offering handmade pens, either they have a smaller lineup or they do experiment with different offerings but only a few become popular. With Woodex there are so many in offer and everyone seems to like most of them, so it becomes very difficult to make up mind on which ones to get just by looking at pictures and spreadsheets 🙂 (This is actually a compliment if anyone thinks otherwise).

I don't own one yet. I'm thinking of getting the 56 and 59 for their uniqueness.

I'm also looking for an EDC which I'll write at home and also carry to office, undecided whether I should go with 2/4 or any other.   Would appreciate any suggestions for the EDC.

Oh yes. I totally agree. I have been purchasing quite a lot of woodex over the years. They have so many models to offer and I find it very difficult to settle on one of them. They keep coming out with new ones. His creativity is quite unmatched and that too with very limited raw materials

My summary:

i prefer the model 4s shape.
model 4 is a gram heavier. Model 1 JoWo was weighed without the converter inside.
I don’t like the clip of the model 1.

I hope this helps.

Please excuse me if my queries are noobish in nature.

1) In the current offering they have, they have several models which are offered as 3-in-1. I'm assuming any model being offered as 3-in-1 would have a threaded nib unit (not friction fit) for sure (and if it's jowo nib then a jowo threaded nib unit, if kanwrite then it could be jowo/bock ). Is my understanding correct?

Model 25, Deccan bullet (matt black), and (for size comparison) Kanwrite desire.

IMG_20210813_184200_1.thumb.jpg.efc063a90363cf2d7cf07e1f31cfca63.jpg

Uncapped. Model 25 has ambitious fine nib. Deccan bullet has KW medium nib. Desire with Acriv Ti (folded) nib.

Model 25 looks cute and writes well; I like it.

2) I did not hear much about folded nibs before. I read in one the quoted post about desire Acriv Ti folded nib.

Does generally Kanwrite/Ambitious nibs come with folded nibs these days?  I was looking at the Woodex options with Kanwrite nibs and I have few legacy nib units, I kind of assumed they are not having folded nib. Is this assumption correct?

Thank you for your time 🙂

It seems they have merged earlier model 6 and 15 and it is now only 6 is available (with white dot). They have some different model in model 15 now (not what is shown in this thread earlier).

I have attached the latest catalogue if anyone needs it. Woodex Pens 2024-1-compressed.pdf

Btw @hari317, just wanted to understand the reason behind suggesting model 15 over the model 2/3/4 as EDC/primary pen , is it because of long size?

I"m planning to request for Kanwrite smooth Fine nib.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
