Woodex is a pen brand based in Hyderabad, Telangana State, India. Ebonite pens are colloquially referred to as "Wood" pens in the south, so the name Woodex is apt for a company that specialises in making ebonite pens.

The penmaker is Mr Prabhakar and the person who sells the pens is his son in law Mr Narasimha.

I am really impressed with the quality of their pens and outstanding workmanship.

Here are a couple of pens that I purchased last month from them:

Model 4:

small.AB28ECF3-AB7B-4219-A74F-45BD2E7F5A

small.AA1AF127-DA7F-4075-B449-0EF787ED21

small.F0CEB334-A449-4394-9E27-75A95EF887

The stock nib is a no 35 from Kanwrite in F or M.

small.F3FC4B9C-58AC-491F-A773-4390706E8C

small.81539872-D509-424B-89D4-8FE474FF83

Alongside my ever inked Deccan Advocate from 2004:

small.F0F57041-FA1A-416C-A3C3-2802929898

small.FC007A27-8F7A-4988-AFA3-8CC9A6B90F

The stock M nib from KW is quite good, I might switch in an identical OBB Stub from KW into the pen for daily use.

Model 15:

This is the smaller version of the Model 4. The Model 6 is similar but this is slightly fancier with a white dot on the cap top.

small.2DCF4A3E-84A6-4B01-B7D8-4C0DFF94EB

small.A05ACC87-70A0-49D1-933E-29C0840D77

small.5DCFD806-1461-49C6-B7A6-48ED85F69D

The Stock nib is a no 5 from Ambitious tipped Fine.

small.A8F0EE4A-2FDD-46EB-9720-30936939B4

small.1F9BE33D-A02C-4239-A6FE-9BE86E3F67

Compared to Deccan Advocate Jr, and Model 13(steel cap)

small.3AFDCD23-45E2-43CF-A80D-1127A0ACD2

small.C67FB7E6-341A-40CE-A5AD-1F02107837

An Indian no 5 nib is 25mm long, 7mm across and sits on a 4.75mm diameter ebonite feeder. The stock F nib is excellent but I need something wider and KW makes only upto B in no 5/5.5 so I have modified the pens section to accept a M200 nib unit.

Compared to Mohi Aura:

small.039B6BBF-C05E-4056-9563-2030BF3966

Both pens sport M200 nib units:

small.FDA0C264-A809-4C5F-B7D6-7D0BC39853

I have purchased some more Woodex pens, will be showing them in this thread as they arrive.

Cheers!

Hari

Beautiful pens Hari. I liked the model 4 best among these two. Maybe I will ask them if they make the same pen in large/jumbo size.

Will have to wait though as I already bought 3 pens last month.

Thank you for sharing the comparison thread.
I already bought a gama supreme, guider zimbo and acriv master last month. And have my eyes on gama kuyil next. So this will have to wait for some time I guess.

Thanks for this thread Hari. I have only one model from Woodex that is No 1. Which is superbly built and I am really very impressed about its performance as well. And the warmth of ebonite always been fascinating to me. Another good thing about Woodex is their wide range of models. But only thing I could say that they should take care of the materials which I find not very satisfying..

Thank you Sagar. I am not sure but I guess they are a v small operation. Given their talent I feel they might do wonders if given SEM or Nikko ebonite rods. Also hardware quality is my general complaint across brands which has a huge scope for improvement. There are only a couple of players for supplying hardware like clips rings and probably a sole player for Indian ebonite who might get to decide who gets what. Given these facts I feel Woodex is a good pen maker and needs to be better known.
do share some pics of your model 1.

Beautiful pens indeed. I certainly like the finish of the model 4.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

Thanks Sagar, Yes ED only, to preserve the original character of the pen i have not done any threading work on the section. The Bock nib is friction fit over a NN feed in the section.

The pen is very similar to the Deccan Shorthand pen which I purchased in 2008. you can read more about it here:

Hari, I don't know why but every ordinary pen becomes special after you display it. Every pen you post I feel like buying it..

😀 that means I have been successful. There are several Indian pens in the model 15 form factor, but none have the hourglass section. Also each Woodex is perfectly engineered. All have working inner caps and accurately and appropriately placed cap breather holes. They also believe is very tight nib feed fitting. All good things.

I have purchased a few more ordinary pens that I spotted in their catalog, let's see how they turn out.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
