Fountain Pen Inventory Database by Jon Rosen - Version 1.5

About This File

This fountain pen inventory database is ready to download. There is a version for both Mac and PC users. The database maintains a lot of useful information about your fountain pen collection, including basic descriptive info, prices paid, repairs made and unlimited photographs.

It also makes it very easy to post reviews to FPN. This database isn't associated with FPN, but I did add a couple of features that plays nicely with FPN.

As mentioned, there's a Mac and a PC version. Because of some font issues on the PC there are a couple of small changes in the PC version. There isn't a large difference, but the Mac version looks a little nicer.

When you download it and unzip it, you will see a file and a folder named Fountain Pen Inventory. The file is an alias to the main program file in the folder. I don't usually distribute my solutions as standalone runtime databases. I've tested it as carefully as I could, but let me know if you have any issues. Even better, let me know if you like it, too.

There is no charge for Fountain Pen Inventory. It's my gift to the FPN fountain pen community. You can redistribute it to someone else, but are not allowed to charge for it, modify it or present it as your own work.

I downloaded and extracted the files. There are so many. Which one(s) do I click on to open the program(s)?

Excellent program.

I keep all my writing related items in here.....pens, pencils, leather, storage cases, ...etc.

Great for insurance purposes as well.

Thank-you for your effort.

This is great! Thanks!

One suggestion. Could you think about adding some kind of inventory number field? I have an inventory number for all my pens (from one to ...well, too many). This would be a great addition.

I second Crofton99's suggestion. I enter pencils that are part of a set and would like to link them with their matching pen. Currently I add a note in the description of both instruments and rely on that and the matching date of purchase. Being able to sort the list so that pairs are listed together would be useful.

Sadly, I can't get it working with Mountain Lion; when double-click Fountain Pen Inventory.app, the program quits unexpectedly.

Thanks for providing this database program...when I reached a count of 15 fountain pens + nibs + inks, thought it was time to document the collection! Much appreciated. I run it on Windows 7.

This is terrific; we were just now deciding to inventory all 88 of my beloved for insurance purposes, and here comes a database utility to help organize this task. You're the TurboTax of fountain pens!

After reading the reviews I'm looking forward to using this program. I currently have a "list" or "inventory" but due to limitations in Excel not able to include all the information I would like and fit it all on 1 page. I'm hoping this will help me to have all the information I want at a quick glance.

I'm just getting into fountain pens. I have two now and I think this database is great and if I start it now I won't have to input everything in later.

However, I was wondering if it would be possible to add ink? I've seen other's mention it and, well, I think it would be nice to track that too.

I have the same problem as Stilo_4810.

Me too. I haven't been able to pen the Inventory for more than a year. Now with Mavericks on a Macbook Pro. This is the error message,

Logical CPU: 1
Error Code: 0x00000004
Trap Number: 14

Any ideas? I'd love to use the software.

Does anybody know if the database works with OS X Mavericks? 'Cause I'm planning on updating my software...

Unable to run the program on my OS X Mavericks. The program quits unexpectedly. Might need a MAC update...please, as I like this program

Terrific! Lest you have nothing better to do than stand on your laurels, why not create a database of every fountain pen ever marketed? Huge undertaking, of course, but I'm sure there are FPNers who would assist in their areas of pen expertise.

Hi,

First of all, thanks for a great software, definitely useful for me. But I have some questions about the currency setting.
Fountain Pen / Edit Default Currency I have changed it to SEK (Swedish crowns) and it works perfectly for the field Purchase Price.

Localized Price: choose a currency, no problem.
Shipping Cost: shows $ though I entered SEK as default currency
Retail Price: shows $ though I entered SEK as default currency.

Have I missed any in setting regarding currency?

Best regards Joakim

I cannot get it to work. I downloaded the file, clicked on the folder you described, but then I get a message that the file cannot be found. Oddly, I get a ribbon at the top of the screen titled Fountain Pen Inventory, but nothing works. I run Sierra on my Macbrook Pro.

This software has been unusable on the MacOS for many years, primarily because of its inability to print a copy of the records. I have communicated with the author, but he does not seem interested in updating the software. I, for one, would be more than happy to pay a fee for a functional version of the software.

Software works great. I would like to know where it saves the pictures and if I can choose to save them in an external drive.
