Thanks.
I had a similar experience on Woodex #9 with 35mm nibs instead of the factory 28mm ones. Standard ebonite feed wouldn't allow enough space, but Sheaffer NN feed did. Outcome was quite rewarding - much better balance now, aesthetically pleasing as well.

The pens look really nice. Is there a stockist in the UK?

Thanks, I dont think there is a stockist for these pens, you will have to buy them directly from the manufacturer. Contact details are in the first post.

Great mod, looks super clean, the #8 nib version gets used the most? Also, where did you get the 380 bb from, thanks.

Thanks. So far the kanwrite mammoth nib unit version got the maximum use. Used as pure ED I faced zero issues. Very nice configuration.

I got the 380 BB from a shop called the pen realm run by Kirk Speer in the USA. My usual suppliers did not have the BB.

Nice! Good to hear about the ed mode. I got a couple when they released Mammoth, they needed a little work before they stopped burping.

I got mine from the initial lot only. I got the B which was writing a bit narrow for my liking. So I contacted Mr Awasthi, he offered to exchange it for a BB coupled with a low flow feed that they had developed in the meanwhile. My example has been trouble free. I quite love the nib and it has found a good home in my 63.

Good to hear about the new feed and bb nib. Always the gentleman, Mr. Awasthi.

The nib widths seem to all be on the narrower side from kanwrite. Still, I like the #35 ones very much, many fun options.

Enjoy your w63!

Lovely pen again. Mine will hopefully arrive next week. Looking forward to it. Do you like the pocket length or the full length?

Woodex 63:

This model was introduced sometime in late 2024. This pen is a recreation of a very similar Deccan masterpiece that I bought in 2005 or so; the only difference being that the Deccan version had a beaky Pelikan-esque clip and had a pure ED fill setup. Unfortunately, I had sold that pen off and could never find one again at Deccan. This pen is a true ebonite jumbo as can be seen from the dimensions:

  • Capped length: 168mm
  • Uncapped length: 158mm
  • Posting cap length: 200mm
  • Cap dia: 21mm
  • Barrel dia: 19mm
  • Section dia: 15mm
  • Ink capacity: 5ml

Previously the largest Indian rod that I had encountered was 20mm in diameter (I didn’t measure the Deccan version’s diameter as those were early days for me).

The fit and finish is impeccable on my piece. I am really impressed. There are zero defects or blemishes in the ebony black ebonite.

I opted for the B nib as a nib unit allowing C/C operation with optional ED filling capability.

I got the unmarked 40mm nib from Ambitious which has just the Ambitious logo tucked away towards the nib tail.

The pen writes really well with generous flow when filled with waterman’s black ink. These are still early days.

The pen is constructed really well. Has a machined in-situ inner cap. The section barrel threads have the buttress thread profile.  The clip catches the fabric smoothly with no rough edges.

Hi Hari,

You have talked about the usage of buttress threads in this model and generally their larger models from 39 onwards have buttress threads. Any reason why it's used with their larger models. I asked the same to woodex and WhatsApp response was not clear.

I think the reason may be that they pay more attention to the larger models as they are more expensive. The inexpensive smaller models might be getting made more quickly. This is just my guess.

Best

Ok. But buttress as it is doesn't add to durability or other such things?

I have covered the role of Buttress threads in this writeup:

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
