Just received the model 1 and another model compatible with Jowo threaded unit, both with kanwrite nibs. I was apprehensive of model 1 thinking it would be quite big and thought of ordering 33. However, model 1 has 35mm nib and model 33 has 5.5 nib. Hence chose model 1 and i am not disappointed.

The section is tapered and stepped. I wanted an hourglass section too. Model 4 with hourglass section is popular as its similar to Deccan Advocate. But i already have one Deccan Adv. So i went and bought a Jowo compatible model. Its called Jowo-model 1. Its has a threaded nib unit of Kanwrite.

The pen is quite big, but surprisingly feather light for its size. Pictures attached and compared against Pilot MR.

The woodex pens are lightest when compared to similar ebonite pens from Deccan, Gama, ASA and Kim (didnt weigh them, but could feel it). Not sure whether its by design, whether the shell thickness of barrel and cap are thinnest in woodex.

Haven't thought about it. But my Kim jumbos are surely the heaviest among all my other similarly sized pens. Maybe because they have only 3ml capacity compared to the higher capacity of similar pens. Or perhaps their ebonite is of higher density. But they work perfectly for me.

Look forward to Hari Sir's thoughts regarding Woodex pens.

Which woodex model are you referring to? I remember in another thread @hari317 sir compared the barrel thicknesses between different ebonite pens vs gama supreme

Both the above models are lighter.. Model 1 and the model with Jowo unit thread.

Btw, i have inked them and the pen's length and balance is superb. It sits so comfortably on my hands. I felt good without posting. When posted, the clip weight kind of puts the pen off balance. The pen starts rotating towards the clip when allowed to rest freely on my thumb's web.

Thanks. Quick qn: Are the two models - 1 and 40(3-im-1 model) same other than the nib unit ?

No, The screw-in nib model has definitely different dimensions when compared to model 1. But they are very close to model 4. Their actual dimensions vary a bit.

There is no visual indication.  However the ink flow will increase as the ink level drops. That’s the indication that you have to refill.

pelikan 4001 black is a pretty solid choice.

Thanks will take that when i finish my Diamine Jet Black

My summary:

i prefer the model 4s shape.
model 4 is a gram heavier. Model 1 JoWo was weighed without the converter inside.
I don’t like the clip of the model 1.

I hope this helps.

I always love to see your Pelikan nib fitted ebonite pens, Hari!
The Pelikan nib looks well proportionate on the 15.
Sizewise what well known pen would you say it compares with?

Thank you. I can’t think of any standard pen that compares. The first post of this thread has a spreadsheet attached with the dimensions listed. Probably it might help.

Wow. Thanks for such a comprehensive comparison 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Model1 jowo section seems a bit thicker than hourglass on model 4, right?
another question i had was about the barrel thickness. According to the table the jowo model 1 has almost 4ml capacity vs model 4 which is 2.5 ml. I was wondering if that is because the jowo model 1 has thinner barrel walls ?

I think there may be slight difference in section. Not sure.

reg ink capacity the JoWo model has a barrel bore drilled deeper for space for converter. The Ed modeks barrel is not drilled as deep. The wall thickness is same in both.

Do you send them ebonite rods, for they make only the standard mottled ebonite colours. Even the earlier matte green of your woodex was fantastic.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
