The scenery in the background of the photos you took reminds me so fondly of gurgaon

Thank you :)

It's actually Mumbai, the sea (blurred) stands at a distant horizon.

Lovely, detailed review. Let me add two points for those considering the Crystal, Hills, or Fog pens.

There is a lot of variation in the swirl patterns, from almost translucent to nary a stripe. Ask for photos from the seller of new pens if you care. You can avoid disappointment that way.

Scotch tape works well at getting those magnetic discs off the top of the pen. Packing tape too. :)

Thanks Zaddick :)

Completely agree with you. I think the second line is most important, since there have been these pens without any swirl or may be a single stripe.

Just got one of these. The only difference is that mine has an 18k fine nib with some flex to it. Also, although labelled <F> it writes more like a medium fine. If I turn it over it writes more like an F-XF.

I am finding it a bit large for my hand. If I don't like it after a while I may post it here on FPN. I got it a reasonable price so I could sell it reasonable too. I will post my experience with it in a few days. wish me luck.

BTW, I was really surprised at the amount of flex and the wetness of the flow.

I have heard many good things about the earlier 18k nibs.

Hope you give the HS some time and enjoy it :)

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going to give the "evaluation" process 3-6 days and then I will make my decision to keep or sell/swap this pen.

I've swapped the 23k Palladium nib on mine with an 18k EF. The barrel has medium density of swirls, just right. I use Visconti's turquoise ink which came in the nice box and glass bottle.

Writes like a charm :)

Filling a vac filler --> More FULLY...

When I filled my pen I found that it never seemed to fill more than about 2/3 full. This did not seem right and I thought something must be wrong with the pen itself. After checking with a friend who said that the lack of a full fill might be one of the "facts of life" with that particular filling system, I went onto YouTube and found this --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTOSY8U2UIM video.

Voila! After several careful practices, using water, I started getting full fills.

Thank you Brian Goulet!

does this "seal" happen to Visconti pens with the vacuum or power vacuum fillers?

As I understand it, it is a result of the physics of the "vac" filling system. A "simple" fill yields about 1.5 ml of ink while the full-fill yield more like 2.2+ ml of ink. I wrote with it for quite a while with the "simple" fill and never needed to open the fill mechanism.

Unlike the other vacuum fillers, for the Homo Sapiens Lava I did not find it necessary to open the blind cap to allow ink flow into the section. However, for the transparent limited editions, which come with a visible secondary ink reservoir, you need to open the blind cap once it runs out of ink.

After ~10 years, my Visconti Homo Sapiens Florentine Hills LE decided to evolve backwards - the outer section politely detached itself.
More likely adhesive fatigue rather than user error (I’d like to believe).

Here is the full repair saga.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
