Imperial Pencil Leads: Where Can I Get Them?
PeterR-C posted a topic in It Writes, But It Is Not A Fountain Pen ....
A friend of mine has a nice Parker Duofold mechanical pencil, made around 1950. He is about to run out of leads. My calipers measure the existing leads at 1/20 inch, 0.05 inch. Does anyone know where Imperial leads are available? The 1.18 mm metrical gauge will work at a pinch, but the real thing would be preferable. Thanks! Peter -
Refilling Cross Pencil Cassette
CarrotBasket posted a topic in It Writes, But It Is Not A Fountain Pen ....
I bought an cross mechanical pencil yesterday confident I could make it work and turns out I uses a lead cassette (I didnt know they existed) and it came empty. Is there really no way to refill these with loose lead? -
Just found a stash of old leads hidden in a drawer, among them there are a couple of late '80s or early '90's Sheaffer 0.9mm leads that have "F15" as the only identification. They come is blue plastic containers with a yellow cap. I would like to know if anyone here has any clue as to the grade they could be? They are pretty firm and write somewhere between a 2H or 4H grade (depending on which brand you compare them to). Thanks in advance!

Clutch Pencil Recommendations?
gammada posted a topic in It Writes, But It Is Not A Fountain Pen ....
I'm thinking of buying a clutch pencil to do some art/ illustration work. Currently contemplating a Kaweco Sketch Up 5.6, and three Koh-I-Noor models 5228, 5201 for 2mm leads and a 5340 for 5.6 leads. Anyone has any of these? How good are they? Any other recommendations? -
I have found a Parker 45 propelling pencil. Can anyone advise if there's any lead that will fit it? Thank you

What Is Your Favourite Lead Size?
Ethereal Winter Wind posted a topic in It Writes, But It Is Not A Fountain Pen ....
For those that use mechanical pens what is your poison? I used to prefer 0.3 mm lead but after a while I have realised 0.5 mm lead is more versatile and stronger. I currently love my 0.5 mm Rotring 800- 30 replies

Hey guys, I'm a young composer and soon to be college student. I currently write music with regular wood case pencils, but I'm interested in trying a mechanical pencil. I have heard good things about the Alvin draftmatic pencils and will probably buy one unless someone can suggest a better pencil. In music you need to be able to write thin and thick lines, so just one pencil probably wouldn't cut it. My question is what size lead should I be using, and what I should do about making the thicker lines because I don't feel like .9 would be thick enough, although I'm not sure.
