Mine arrived yesterday. A careful examination reveals no defects. Haven't had time to clean and fill it. I'm very pleased with the color.

That's excellent news.

Mine has no defects in the body either, but after 40+ good nibs (from Pelikan, because other brands like MB, Omas and Delta have given me all sorts of trouble), the last two birds have been misaligned. Usually that is no big deal, but this one is really bad because the feed is loose and no matter what I do it doesn't stay aligned. I'll probably have to send the nib back. :(

Sirgilbert, did Appleboom resolve your situation?

Got my pen as well. Don't see any physical defects here either. Tines were somewhat misaligned but were easily fixed. Writes very well. The barrel is a much less translucent than Vibrant Blue. Pretty much impossible to see through without a super strong light source.

No. I haven't heard anything back yet. I was going to give them until Monday and then reach out again. Kind of frustrating, but not surprising, sadly...

Oh, my!! That is really bad... and not what I would have expected of a vendor with such a good reputation.

I really hope they will resolve this situation soon (by sending you a new pen or cap, according to your preference).

Best of luck, and keep us posted.

My two arrived today and no issues of any sort. The color is pretty dark and not nearly as warm as the tortoise or as vibrant as the blue, but a keeper for sure.

I certainly hope "Sirgilbert257" gets appropriate action (replacement) on his pen!

I had the pleasure to buy my 2 Pelikan Renaissance (one for me in Medium and one for my wife in Broad) from Finelli in Italy. They are beautiful pen, write fantastic, even if I find my Medium a little to broad. I inked mine with Robert Oster Ink Caffe Latte and I found it a perfect match. My wife uses the Edelstein Smoky Quartz. Anyway, really happy with the pens.

Still no reply. I emailed Appelboom again today. It has been two weeks...I just asked for a new cap and explained that I am happy to return the defective cap once the new one arrives. What would be outstanding service is if a new cap is sent right away and I am reimbursed for the return shipping costs for sending the original cap back, which honestly, should be minimal. We shall see...

I'm still hoping this issue will be resolved to your satisfaction. Thanks for keeping us all informed so far . . .

Filled my Renaissance with Edelstein Smoky Quartz, only to find that it's a hard starter. The nib writes rather dry for a Pelikan F. The tines are aligned OK--can't tell whether it has baby's bottom or the gap is too narrow. I did clean it with a little Dawn rinse before filling. I'm delighted with the appearance of the pen, and will have one of the nibmeisters adjust it at the Dallas show.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Mine arrived today. There are no defects that I can find. Im really taken with the color. I think this may be my favorite brown pen.

One interesting note. The first of two pens came with a medium nib that clearly had been inked. I inquired about this and was told that because pens were shipped without the nibs as ordered, my pen got fitted with a Pelikan tested nib. After some cleaning, the nib is a dream to write with. Truly smooth as butter.

My second pen came with a brand new untouched Fine nib. Nothing unusual with this one.

I hope you make it clear to Appleblooms that this is a topic of conversation here on FPN. That we have all been receiving our new pens, and your's seems to be the only one with defects.

Make sure they know that you are reporting back to FPN membership on how they are handling this.

I also think you should not get hung up on parts. Get a new pen and be done with it, or these people will jerk you around forever, IMHO...

Makes me angry to see you going through this unnecessary hassles.

The way Appelboom has handled this situation thus far has been pretty lacklustre.

Old Salt & invisuu: I understand your position, but I don't wish to use the power of bad press to force an unnatural resolution. I'm trying to be fair to the vendor here too. I haven't asked, but he simply may not have any more in stock that aren't already spoken for. This isn't a plain black M200 after all, heheh. So if that is the case, he can't really send me a new pen...and it wouldn't make sense for him to ask me to send my defective one back if he has nothing to give me in return. Of course it would inflame the situation and be slightly unprofessional for him to offer up all of these details to a perfect stranger if that is the case, so I can understand why he might be saying very little at this point. He might really have no option but to wait for Pelikan to resolve this and that's likely frustrating for him as well. I've no reason to think uncharitably of him so far. Once we decide on a resolution to this situation I might very well order another pen from him, but if I do, I will ask him to personally look it over before mailing it out. A special request he likely cannot fulfill for everyone, but one that I'm guessing he would honor given the history we are building at the moment...

Anyway, here is what I sent him yesterday:

"It has been about two weeks now. Have you not heard anything from Pelikan? I would like to get this resolved soon. This seems to be a very clear warranty issue, so I don't understand why no one has taken action yet. Can I just be sent a new cap? I am happy to return this cap to you once I've received one that isn't defective."

To which he replied:

"Dear Mr. Gilbert,

I have sent Pelikan a reminder, hopefully we will receive a respons[sic] today."

Fine then. I'll wait a bit longer before pressing the issue. But now I've at least made it known what my preferred handling of this should be: just simply a new cap. It makes the most sense. Smaller, lighter packages are cheaper to ship and insure. I'm hedging against the likelihood of having to pay the cost to send this cap back and not being reimbursed, but let's see what happens. If I am forced to send the whole pen back, I will demand to be reimbursed in full. Back to waiting for now, I guess.

Have you tried contacting Pelikan directly? You may have already said but this thread is very long.

No, I haven't. Maybe I should. I'll give Appelboom a bit more time first.

Good news -- timely for a Friday at that:

Appelboom has responded:

"Dear Mr. Gilbert,

We received today a replacement cap for your Renaissance Brown, which will be shipped forward to you immediately.

Could you send the original one back to us?

Thank you in advance!"

This is exactly what I was hoping for. I will report back once I have the new cap in hand to be sure it is flawless and matches the barrel pattern. What is curious is that a cap just showed up and Appelboom never said it was coming. Maybe he didn't know? Anyway, whatever, Pelikan did the right thing.

LOL. Thanks Old Salt. It would have been a different story if the pen was unusable all this time!! I can't stand getting a new pen and not inking it right away!

I'm glad that this story apparently is going to end well--and I hope you'll have years of enjoyment with this Renaissance Brown pen! Good news, indeed! And a tribute to your patience and good will! Cheers all around!!!!
