The nukes are flying tomorrow, and you can choose any one fountain pen (doesn't have to be one you own) to take with you to survive the coming collapse. Make it last - it'll be your last modern writing instrument until society rebuilds, and that means it'll have to be durable enough to make it through without repairs or breaking. What do you pick?

I am fairly new to the fountain pen world but have gone through my fair share of pens while searching for something that works for me and my life. i am currently looking for a pen that can take some abuse. My work and life destroys almost anything that comes near my pockets. I have snapped several Lamy Safari's in half, crushed more Jinhao than i want to admit, broken 3 clips on my kaweco alsport and 2 on my Lamy's and in an unfortunate welding accident melted a hole through my pants pocket and directly through the middle of my Noodlers freebie eyedropper that i got with a bottle of ink(I topped it off that morning). All of this is within the last year and a half and just to show some of the damage below is what all has survived the last few months in my pockets. So far the only pen that has survived has been my Kaweco alsport but the clips are all too flimsy and bend straight out after a few weeks. not to mention that i had to add a copper plug to keep the cartridge from popping out inside the pen and super-glued the clip in place to keep it from falling off when clipped onto my pocket. Does anyone have any recommendations for a metal pen that screws closed with a tough clip. Something a little longer than the alsport would be nice but not necessary. Also does anyone else have any horror stories of destroyed pens. I'd love to hear them if you do.

I'm a student, and I usually carry one of my nice pens (I don't actually have any cheap pens - just my grandpa's 51, Snorkel, and my Edison Nouveau Premier) in a leather sleeve in a separate compartment in my backpack. In my pocket, along with my keys and knife (and whatever else makes its way in there) I usually carry a cheap ballpoint or gel pen. Just a Bic or a G2, sometimes a mechanical pencil. I want to carry a fountain pen instead, and I was wondering what you thought would be best for something that I can throw in my pocket and not worry about it breaking. It's between a Preppy, a Metro, or a Safari. It'd just be for times when I need something to write with right away, so a cheap pen with a fine nib and a snap cap is what I want. Would a Preppy work? Can it stand up to the abuse of being smashed around like that? Or should I upgrade to a Metro or a Safari? (I welcome other suggestions) Thanks!

Hello, My current endeavor at the moment is finding a pen to carry daily that is durable and of quality. I am aware that sometimes the "tactical pens" and EDC (every day carry) pens are considered synonymous, but in this case might we explore outside of those pens please. I frequent professional meetings, but am also an avid hiker that likes to write outdoors. If you can help me by suggesting a pen that can fit the profile of both professional and sturdy I will be quite thankful.

This past year I have delved into the blackhole of fountain pens and cannot get out! I like it though. Anyways, I primarily have stuck to Aluminum bodied pens for their heft and durability. I really want to make the jump and buy let's say an Edison or Franklin Christoph FP which are made of Acrylic (Resin). Unable to go to a local pen shop to try one out I rely on reviews. So my main concern is if Acrylic pens will break if there is so much as a slight mishandle or temperature change. Thank you for your time and look forward for your responses! Being an engineering student, I am normally a mechanical pencil guy. I am not a pen collector (yet ). However, I am in the market for a good, solid, metal pen that will last. So I decided to come to the pen experts to see if they had a recommendation for me. What I want: I will be needing a pen for more permanent work in my field (commercial construction) for signatures, proposals, and bids. I probably won't be using it for lengthy writing. I was going to get a Lamy Safari or even Al-Star. However, I had the opportunity to hold a Lamy Safari and was not happy with the weight or the fact that it was plastic (even though it was nice plastic). When I I write with mechanical pencils, I normally use a rotring 600, 800, or staedtler 925-25 to give you an idea of my taste. I would prefer a look more similar to those than a sleek, modern looking pen. I am hoping to spend <$50 but would increase my budget slightly if there was a great pen that I liked the look of. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
