Could you help identify this Montblanc?

Could you please help identify this pen? I am  by no means a Montblanc connoisseur and therefore at somewhat of a loss. Many thanks for all the help you can offer. I bought this pen from a thrift store.

Montblanc Meisterstück 146 

I looked at the

ink window

two-tone nib

size of the pen

 

Look for photos of the Meisterstück pens. There are differences between them. Visually comparing them is a good way of learning how to identify them.

Thanks! I tried comparing images from an online search, but I must admit I felt lost pretty quickly. I could have put more time towards a search,  though. Can you give me a pointer to start with? Would it for instance be a good idea to start with comparing a 146 and a 149?

In my view, main difference is the size. The 146 is from the UNICEF series.

Matt mentioned most of the characteristics.  But having dealt with 100s or more of MBs, I can just look and know.

One of the things that always stands out to me on the 149 vs. 146 is the "star" on the 146 cap overhangs the sides quite a bit more than on the 149. On the 149, it's almost entirely on the top of the cap. I'm pretty sure they're the same size on both pens, which makes it look proportionally a lot smaller on the larger 149 cap.

 

The 149 nib is also BIG. Even though it's a bigger/fatter pen, to my eye it's still larger in proportion to the pen body than on the 146. I find the same thing on the 144/145 where the nib looks teeny tiny(although these also have other visual cues).

 

One thing on nibs-149s can have two-tone or tri-tone nibs depending on the age, so seeing a two-tone doesn't automatically rule out a 149.

The precious resin on a real Montblanc  Meisterstuck is actually red but looks black so perform a “red” test. You have to get the light to shine in the right place but when you do you will see the red.

a FAKE Montblanc is normally just black plastic and will not show the red.

 

While I have been told that there are some fakes that glow red, I have never seen a fake MB that glows red.
