How Difficult Are White Pens?

I have two white pens.

One is a Jinhao X-750 with a white barrel and cap (the white is actually a white plastic sleeve over the brass body). I have no problems with it at all.

The other is a Penbbs 308 in Bleached Pine. It seems to attract any blue ink within 5 metres of it. The ink doesn't stain the acrylic, but I am forever spitting on a tissue and wiping blue off it. In much the same way my mother would spit on a hankie to remove some small proportion of the grime perpetually gracing to my 9-year-old face...

Any demonstrator is prone to staining and any white pen is prone to show ink stain or coloring / yellowing. By that lacquered pen is actually the easiest going as far as white the color is in concern. as the color usually are under the top most clear coat and the clear coat pretty much protect the WHITE from being stained, a decent swipe down with damp cloth and simply cleaning will do fine. Plastic / Resin / other exotic material in white / off white or any similar light color risk staining far easier especially if they see some weathering ( micro scratches ... etc )

Good to know, I've been getting so many mixed responses from people who have unspecified white pens claiming they stain or yellow but I can't confirm the relevant material. From my limited knowledge and research lacquers don't have that bad of an issue with staining but stuff like the ABS plastic Safari does. So many variables to consider.

I use my ivory Waterman Charleston on a regular basis. It's still really clean. I haven't noticed any staining or discoloration.

Yeesh, have you ever tried a green ink? I've been thinking on using one if I were to get this white pen.

Yes, that stained too. I used diamine jade green, it left really annoying yellowish staining.

I have several white pens, including the white striped m605 and the white tortoise m600. The threads and cap haven't stained (I fill with a syringe) but have flecks of ink in them. The white tortoise does have a slight, small stain on the inside of the barrel (from tsuki-yo). When buying a white pen, I have to really want it as selling in a less than pristine state is too difficult and they don't remain pristine for long. I do use these pens constantly and so they are worth it.

I have a Pelikan M400 white tortoise, one several years old, and no staining. I have used blue black ink only in it, Montblanc Midnight Blue. The red and purple inks people love to use are liable to stain pens. I use them in C/C pens, where the filling system is a throw-away item.

I've been using a MB William Shakespeare Edition and it's remained whitish. I've only used it with MB (non permanent) inks which will wipe off easily. That said, my white Parker vector turned shades of grey after being kept in a pencil case with a sharpener.

 

Buy a case for your pen and keep it separate from others.

Buy a case for your pen and keep it separate from others.

I carry my daily pens in individual pen sleeves. Hopefully the pencil lead will wash off that vector, it doesn't really stick that well to anything when water is applied from my experience.

Yeah I love purple but I never realized how vicious the ink was to a pen, I've also heard that greens aren't much better. Maybe ink is the issue, if we could just eliminate ink from our fountain pens they could last forever!

Well, just avoid the staining inks in some pens and use them in C/C pens. Then it's all hunky-dory.

I dont have any Pelikan M600 White but 2 of M100s. I didnt feel any different to take care them from other color.

My experience in cleaning pens has been that RED ink is the hardest to clean, followed by PURPLE ink.
