Interesting to know that yours fit. I emailed Pablo about the standard #5 JoWos fitting an Eco this morning. His reply was no, they do not. I'm looking for an architect grind, and I'm tempted to just but the entire pen to get it.

 

That was his advice to me, too: the curvature on the TWSBI nibs is (I think) customised for them to sit just a *little* more snugly against the feed, so that the standard #5 JoWo nibs may be a bit loose. Glad to hear that's not always the case - but any buyer of these nibs needs to be aware that fpnibs.com aren't guaranteeing their suitability for use in TWSBI pens.

I'll second that: ordered about a dozen #5.5 from FPR and it seems that one in three when loaded into an ECO is cranky enough to be a waste of time. Others seem fine. Doesn't seem to have much correlation to nib size (excluding the stubs).

 

Another interesting side note is that a Vac Mini which I recently ordered has the same nib+feeder arrangement as the ECOs. An ECO M nib worked fine in my Vac Mini. Whether this means the FPR nibs are (somewhat) usable in the Vac Mini is TBD.

Here is a follow-up on my previous post about fitting No. 5 JoWo nibs to a TWSBI Eco.

 

It took about a month for my order to arrive in Toronto, Canada, from Pablo at fpnibs.com. Among the goodies was a No. 5 JoWo steel nib, broad, with an architect grind. Pablo did not guarantee the fit of these nibs in TWSBI pens, but against his advice, I decided to try anyway.

 

You are correct. There is a slight difference in curvature between the TWSBI and JoWo nibs. My custom ground JoWo came perfectly-aligned. After careful installation in an Eco, the tines were misaligned. I had to make a few small adjustments under a 20x loupe to restore its smoothness.

Me and spellcheck often have this fight...

 

fpnibs.com shows the ECO nib as an option...tho right now it appears out of stock. It was accessible last week, so guessing they are just out for now...

I think the Eco nibs now are sourced from TWSBI, not their own customization of the stock JoWo #5 nib - but you can always confirm that by checking in with them...

The smallest word of caution, the Eco nibs have narrow shoulders, I have just tried to swap out a stub for another nib of the same length, all was good until I put the cap on, or at least tried to put the cap on.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
