Help About Sailor Pro Gear Imperial Black Fp

Hello,

I bought a brand new Sailor Pro Gear Imperial Black FP with medium nib. But I have a problem with it. The Ink flow is very poor.When I write with very very lower angle and press hard, it is ok. Using Normal angle, higher angle and light pressure caused problem. I checked the nib tines, I didn't see a misalignment. It writes scratchy and dry. What do you offer about this problem?

I lost my confidence with Sailor due to their very stiff nibs with very little le-way for lefties however I would openly suggest that have the nib tuned to your writing style because again they have very little soft spots and at times they are very very toothy giving a very draggy feel

so a few suggestions you can take when doing a tuning

have a professional who knows you tune it

open the tines a little by yourself using your finger nail or brass sheet and hopefully the nib will respond

In reference to one of the posters, I am a lefty and I have not yet had a problem with sailor nibs. Of course all I buy are EF nibs, but perhaps you just need a good flush and cleaning between the tines with a brass shim. Also try using different inks from different makers.

I've used Sailor nibs for several years without any problems. I like their austere rigidity and absolute smoothness. As someone else on this forum noted, it's like writing on glass with an icicle. For precision work they can't be beat. Is it possible to return the pen and request a replacement?

The craftmanship is very good but the tines are very close. Even they are the same brand they have differnces.

I can't return the pen because I didn't buy it from autorized retailler. I hoped I would be able to fix and use it.

 

Which ink are you using?

First I use Sailor black cartridge then Sheaffer skrip black and now using Waterman serenity blue.

 

 

After try to open the tines and using different ink it is Ok now, not very good but OK. Actual writing sample is here:

As I mentioned earlier, did you happen to clean between the tines? And I would soak it with an ammonia solution.

Excuse me I missed your reply.Yes I flushed it with dish detergant but I haven't got a brass shim. The brass shim may cause special ion plated come off?

Its not my pen so I am not 100% positive, but I doubt that a brass shim will cause any harm to the nib.

I also do not believe a brass shim will hurt the finish on the nib. In addition to cleaning between the tines, a brass shim can be used to spread the tines slightly to increase ink flow. Goulet sells them very reasonably.

have you tried the sailor lefty nib 21k?

are you an over writer or an under writer?

I am also left handed and have several sailors and have had no problems.

im a predominantly an over and side writer

but yeesh I'm not ready to chuck that much of money for a lefty exclusive nib... I'm assuming its as much as a KoP

No, it's the same price as a regular Profit, about JPY 20,000. Unfortunatly, it only comes in Profit style and Only in Black and Gold. I am an Over/side writer as well and have never had any problems with my MF or my Zoom.

Well, if you ever get to Japan I know that you can try one out at Itoya if it is in stock. Some people really like it.

I have experienced this problem with a couple of my Sailor nibs. Use the most wet and lubricating ink you can find. Sailor ink has not suited all my Sailor pens. I now use Iroshizuku inks but there are probably other brands.
