What's your favourite Manbag?

For the last couple of months I've been carrying an iPad messenger bag from Rickshaw Bagworks. They had a LivingSocial deal for half off if you came into the store to order. Since the store was on my way to meet with the SF Pen Posse I stopped in. The place was overflowing. I finally selected a bag right off the shelf rather than custom ordering after I picked it up for the fifth time. It has a black nylon exterior and a red/orange with dot pattern interior and it seemed to be calling me. It took two hours to work through the line in the overly warm store but after awhile I had too much time invested to just give up...and I really wanted the bag. I'm really glad that I waited it out. It's a well thought out design well made. It carries all that was flowing out of my last bag quite nicely while having the feel of being smaller.

I use the good ol' inexpensive standard Israeli paratrooper bag. You can find it for less than $20 shipped, its heavy duty canvass, comes in a couple of military type colors, and really is not bad looking. It has a small covered pouch with elastic shell holders that work great for pens, dividers are not sewn to the bottom of the bag so they don't bunch up when a compartment is over stuffed, only drawback is the cheap pot metal fasteners on some.

When on the bike I have a custom Timbuk2 messenger that works well for similar purposes, but not at its best for a writers bag. Great bike bag, though.

For anyone interested, if you're on Facebook and you *like* Rickshaw Bagworks they have a couple of discount programs running right now.

I have a couple of nice bags from Mulholland Brothers - a soft, leather briefcase and a thick nylon (w/leather trim) messenger bag.

They just had a 70-90% off sale on discontinued styles and seconds at their factory warehouse in Berkeley. Their bags are gorgeous and well-made (made in the USA too!). I also bought a wallet made of baseball glove leather.

My messenger bag was on sale for $40.

I cannot find the briefcase on their website, so it's probably a discontinued style.

They also make really nice bags made from oilskin/waxed cotton and endurance (rubber-like material).

I'm a big fan of the swiss Victorinox/Wenger items so I had this bag for at least a couple years. Took it everywhere and it shows it...I used it until one of the D rings for the strap broke a bout a month ago.

I'm still planing on getting it repaired so I can have it at least as a back up.

I then bought this one from their 1884 series. I really like it, but it's a lot stiffer, more like a briefcase than a messenger bag. I also can't really toss this bag into my cars because it has four small metal pieces in the bottom for support when placed on the floor...but I'm afraid those pieces will scratch the leather seats in my cars if the bag gets tossed in.

For the future I have my eyes on the Levenger bomber jacket large messenger back and also the Large Saddleback Leather briefcase.

I'm not a man, but I love this thread and thought I'd add a brand that I haven't seen mentioned on here: moop. The bags are handmade in Pittsburgh and they are gorgeous.

My current favorite: Messenger No. 4 for iPads (http://www.moopshop.com/products/messenger-no-4-for-ipads-in-brown)

Maxpedition Versipack is a cheap solution to your needs. I use mine only as a gym bag. Duluth Pack or Orvis Field bags are good choices also, however, they're better suited to their sporting uses. There is NO substitie for a Saddleback Leather Company briefcase. If you find that too big any of their satchels will do nicely for your needs and they're so well built you will NEVER wear one out. vinper

I'm biased, but my new favorite is this Writer's Bag my wife and I recently finished. I think it's a great size with a lot of versatility and in a lot of ways I prefer the vertical design to more conventional horizontal ones. I'm going to make myself one once we can afford it and have the time.

MkVII Canadian Gas Mask Bag

I use it to carry everyday essentials and contingencies. Usually a journal, pencils, basic first aid kit, some snacks, and other things depending on the occasion.

I like the look of these.

I cam across this website a week or so ago when I was looking for a nice backpack. This page has a few shoulder bags, messenger bags and a briefcase. All hand made. Adler Stream Canvas

I have not purchased from them yet but am working out details on modifying a backpack.

Like a lot of folks I have multiple bags, but picked one up a few months ago I really like, the Maxpedition Malaga. The bag is basically a small backpack with a single shoulder strap. I know this concept is not necessarily new, but I feel this is a good execution of the idea. The bag is versatile and holds pens, pads, journals, books, and assorted extras without being too large. The bag also will accept a variety of additional options which increases utility.

That one is kinda neat. It's a Sitka sized Falcon. :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
