My favorite is a well beaten Tumi leather computer bag I bought at Marshall's in 1998 for $30 or so. But I may also use a backpack, or a briefcase or a messenger bag. Depending what I am doing.

You know, I had talked myself out of "needing" a new boarding/travel bag. And then this thread gets fired up and going again. :bonk: Why, oh why did I have to look at it again. Now I feel like Santa...making a list and checking it twice! :gaah:

I had this made by a local craftsman for me. it is based off a saddleback design, combining the best of the large and thinline briefcases.

Very nice, the color and flap reminds me of my old Coach briefcase. I bought it 20 years ago. It really looks old, I just can't part with it. I am sure you will enjoy your bag.

I use a Filson 257 in tan. It started out stiff as a board but it is really breaking in nicely.

I received mine, one exactly like yours, a few days ago, and I already know I have made a great purchase...

Bladerunner, which "model" is that? I can never gauge sizes of these bags from photos.

Mine is the large, but I am a big fellow. Most find the small quite adequate. I can't praise the product enough!

Just keep the weight in mind. Some people's bags weigh that much loaded: up to 8Lbs.

A lot of people on the usn forum where and are really happy with them, I started out really enthusiastic but I sold it within a week. Dave sell a lot of these, so they are doing some thing's certainly right, but I wanted to give some nuances.

It's a heavy bag, the rucksack feature was limited in use and IMHO these kind of bags should be made from vegetable tanned (oak) leather, not chrome tanned. but they don't tell you anything about that on their site. Expensive chrome tanned leather is in a drum for a day, veg oak tanned is cured for months and even up to a year for leather boot soles etc.

Just look at Swaine Adeney and Briggs or (more competetive priced) at Gfeller's Diamond Creek Satchel. (I have both these bags but there are surely others as well). I had the SAB Westminster wrap SS for a good year or so, very nice business bag, the gfeller for a month as my EDC and that one is going to stay for a long time as well.

My bag empty with strap weighs in at just over 5.4 lbs.... now mind you that is a 17 1/2" wide x 13" tall x expandable 2 compartment 6" deep bag. loaded with my gear it weighs in just shy of 18 lbs on the average day plus what ever I pick up along the way. I do not even notice any additional weight from the bag.

Coach - Black Leather Messenger Bag. Before that a Coach - Black Leather Backpack. I still have the backpack, just have not used it in a while. I have had it for 10 years and still in great shape. The messenger bag was an anniversary present from my wife last year. She said I wasn't in college anymore, and needed a big boy bag. I bought the backpack after my first back surgery, and got the messanger bag after my 3rd. It was recommended by my surgeon. Keeping anything in you back pocket is one of the worst things you can do, especially if you are one of those people that have a wallet that is 2" thick from all the stuff in it. It causes you spine to tilt at the bottom which is very bad for you. I only carry a wallet when walking or standing.

The 8lbs is what it says on the saddleback website.

But another thing, how much do you walk with 18lbs?!

When I use the public transport system I need to walk at least 15 min. and often more than 30min so that adds up to an hour a day. With 18lbs on one shoulder that ain't very funny I would suppose.

Or your chiropractor is one of your best visited friends ;) I know it would be for me. I try to keep the weight Dow. As much as I can, but even with 10-12 lbs it can be quite a challenge.

Last night my wife wanted to shop through Ikea. After 1.5 hours my shoulder did hurt, as did my back.

Alecgold: Great info, Dude - Thank you.

This may be a touch "off topic", but: Can you please explain the basis of your point, above?

Why "should" these bags be made from vegetable tanned leather?

Is your point that the "chrome" tanning process involves potentially hazardous chemicals, and the "vegetable" tanning process is a "natural" one?

Or, is your point that the vegetable tanning process produces leather that creates a "better", more durable, etc. bag than the chrome process?

Your reviews and commentary on the use and nature of this Topic are very helpful and informative to me - and, perhaps, other Members here, as well.

I would appreciate your comments so that I might learn more about the process of creating these types of satchels, bags, etc. and make an "informed" investment in a quality piece.

Thank you, again, for your time.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
