No "bad," you did many of us a favor by letting us know that the Origin 149 was available again, even if not in all countries!!

And, as for the pricing, there is no trying to figure that out......even if one does the mathematical "correction" for the differences in the value of the respective currencies, the price is not "uniform" world-wide.

@Seney724, @digitorum I thank you for the information.

I’m in Canada and we have been sold out for over a month to the point where my one boutique is canceling clients on their waiting list (if I understood correctly but the other boutique is saying they are hopeful that MB will ship more in the next few months).

So I called the NY boutique that is showing 149 availability and they have nothing for sale at the moment.  The one piece that is showing is part of their display case and if I wanted to go on their wait list I have fifteen people ahead of me.

She is not saying that they will not receive any more just that her opinion is that it is very slow and it may take a few months.  Last month they received four 149 pens and they were all gone right away.

It does appear that MB is still producing/shipping them but not enough to meet the current demand.  I’ll keep trying and will continue to enjoy the one I already have.

Thank you for your update @DimitriDiak  I agree, if you are patient one of them will surely come your way........

Meanwhile, as of this very moment, the MB USA website claims that the Atlanta and Boca Raton Boutiques have them in stock.

The site has a chat function.  I do not know if the chat agent is a human or not but that chat agent confirms their current availability.

Here is the contact information they list for each Boutique:

Wow, lucky you. I hope to try them soon - and choose one of them of course. For today, the news is that I bought an MB watch 2027 (black dial, steel bracelet).

Wow. Fantastic pens. But out of my budget. Today I saw other release that was advertised on one Facebook group. Images are public.

I’m sure the calligraphy is an order of magnitude (or two) outside my budget but it’s an amazing art piece. Maybe if it hits the clearance rack at the outlet mall I’ll pick it up :)

Thank you for the contact information @Seney724!

I've now spoken with three Montblanc boutiques in the US (showing current availability on the Montblanc Online site) and two in Canada, and none of these have the 149Origin in stock.

The good news is that the three US boutiques have a waiting list, with some having five or more people and others up to fifteen already waiting.  According to some boutique agents, production will continue, and it's just a matter of time before more items are released.

I found this information somewhat comforting and will remain optimistic for a little while longer (I’ll give it four more months before I panic 😉).

Thank you for your thoughtful response and update @DimitriDiak  I am disappointed to learn that the information about current availability which Montblanc provides on their website is not up-to-date.  They can do better.......

Meanwhile, I share your optimism that, with patience, all will work out well for you in the end.

And, finally, thanks for the really terrific photos of your Origin 149.  I think your photos are very appealing: I may have to rethink my current position on acquiring one for myself!!

My pleasure @Seney724!

I am so glad to hear that you are reconsidering this piece.  I don't blame you; it's rare for them to release a Special Edition of the 149 with so many design changes.  Also, they aren't giving us much time or many opportunities to get acquainted with these new releases.

I know I've passed up several opportunities in the past, to get a new release, only to look back two years later and realize I made a mistake that I can’t take back.

do you sense that the text on the cap will wear off easily? I understand that it’s imprinted on the surface, rather than etched/filled.

@Heinkle No I think not.  I’ve looked at it at 10X and it appears to be engraved and well done so that I can’t feel the lettering.

Therefore I can verify per the MB product release catalogue that …

“All these editions feature the original logo engraved on the top, dating back as far as 1924.”

Just got back from a trip to Switzerland. The 149 Origin seems to be readily available. The two boutiques I checked had 3-4 pieces in stock. Landolt-Arbenz had them in stock as well. It did not appear to be in short supply based on my conversations with the store staff.

In addition to the 149 origin, picked up the 149 calligraphy curved nib pen. They join my 90th anniversary 149, and Starwalker fineliner.

now thinking of swapping the nib to an OM or OB. Any suggestions here?IMG_6061.thumb.jpeg.861d37189e9ac1064ca307641a86bde3.jpeg

@kabbyr Thank you for this interesting report and congratulations on your acquisitions!

I vote for an OB, as I am partial to the “Broad Side,” especially on Montblanc’s #9 size nib.

A BB would be nice and I’m thinking of an OBB myself but my favourite are the EF or if it were available an EEF.  I have a 149 with an OBBB from 1952 and it will take some practice to get use to the oblique.  I think the modern ones have less of an oblique so I would love to try one.

That's an interesting photo. May I ask what 'first aid' means in this context?

I imagine being a German company this is just their best translation for the free complimentary nib exchange service (aid = assistance).

Am I the only one that doesn't like the engraving on the cap? Without it I would have bought it immediately - now I am still in doubt...

@Linger That is entirely possible, as I have not seen much on the forum so far in the way of unappreciative commentary regarding the cap engraving.  But there may be a silent majority out there sharing your opinion which has not yet spoken; in any event, the popularity of an opinion is not a measure of its worth nor of its validity.

You are blameless for taking time to formulate a decision.  Purchase of a model of The Origin Collection is a significant investment.  One should be sure.

I actually like it.

It reminds me of the vintage ones, and I think it is quite appropriate to celebrate the 100 years.
