Hello, I hope everyone is enjoying their new writing instruments.

I guess the day is here … I have been trying to get a second 149 Origin (so I can add a modern EF nib to my collection) and my Montblanc Boutique were just notified that MB won’t be shipping anymore to NA.  It appears that there will be no more production and they are canceling any open orders.  Too bad.

If someone knows where there may be one available please let me know.  I know the odds of finding one will be low.  Thanks.

Fritz Schimpf seems to have them in stock: https://www.fritz-schimpf.de/en/Brands/Montblanc/Montblanc-Meisterstueck-The-Origin-Collection-149-Fountain-Pen.html?force_sid=83is1cna5limccrvs646ks2k04&listtype=search&searchparam=montblanc fountain pen&listtype=search&searchparam=montblanc fountain pen

Still searching for a 149 Origins…been looking since release but haven’t been able to land one at all. Hoping they’re still coming out with more.

Did you try activating the Montblanc Online Store “Back in Stock Service”?

I got a notice that it was back in stock this last week but I called my MB Boutique to see if they got any in and by the time I went back to the Online Store they were out of stock again.  So if you sign up and get a notification buy it right away.

Some people think that this is it and others think that they will sort out their production issues and produce more in the upcoming month/s.  Nobody knows for sure yet.

@empliau thank you for point this out to me.  I emailed them to inquire and unfortunately came back with this reply.

Oh sorry - since they had the add to cart button I thought they were in stock. I'm in the US and have bought from FS - the shipping isn't cheap but I think the service is worth it.  Maybe something to keep an eye on?

It is a fantastic Shop.  I agree 100% about their first class customer service.  Very refreshing in this day & age. Highly recommended no matter what country you call home.

Am I the only one who is shocked to learn that their allocation of the Origin 100 Year series 149 fountain pens "have not arrived so far?"

Given their long time, very tight ties to Montblanc - Hamburg (remember, as recently as two years ago they collaborated on a special, Fritz Schimpf "Italic Edge" edition, Montblanc 149) I would have assumed they would be among the first to receive them, not among the last.

Is this yet another reflection of MB's apparent, ongoing move to cut out all their independent authorized dealers?  Will they be next?

100 Year Origin Skeleton is coming out, unlike the 75th & 90th which on the same design the new 100th skeleton cost a whopping 8600000yen, Opps i am out of the game....

The price is crazy but inline with similar artisan LE from MB.

I didn't know about collectorspreview.com. Cool to look through the other artisan editions; many of which I had never seen before (be warned the site is slow to load). There are some stunning pieces of art that happen to be pens.

I have seen the collectors preview and the last one is a Calligraphy 149 skeleton  with an italic nib. Maybe, could we aspect a 149 with this nib in autumn?

I saw it, too. And I also hope that Montblanc would introduce the italic nib in its offer of the Calligraphy series.

There are, however, still too many unsold Curved nib on the market, even in MB website, and I think Montblanc would not made an offer like this in 2024. They should probably also try to take best advantage from the recently launched The Origin series, so I don't expect a new 149 for the autumn.

But I am quite optimistic for 2025.

As I am not in the line for the Skeleton (he he he), I can save some bucks for the italic nib...

+ 1 for Fritz Schimpf being a fantastic shop.

So much so that the minute I heard about the 149 Origins I put an order for one with a BB nib with them, and I must have been the first to do so: I have already received mine, but they told me that up to that point (two weeks or so ago) mine was the only one they received.

I was also surprised that they had not received much stock of the Origins collection (I'm still waiting on a Classique for my wife), but there must be more than just cutting independent dealers out t this story. I was in Spain almost two months ago and have seen several dealers that had the Origins collection, including 149, and none of them were boutiques.

And I have also seen boutiques in airports that have not received any up to two weeks ago. So, apparently MB distribution network works in mysterious ways 😀

Do very dearly hope so too.

(I guess "collectors" category for Montblanc begins at several tens of thousands of dollars upwards. The rest of us, such as those who are limiting themselves to "precious resin" or metals, or chasing Hemingway, etc are poor peasants sweating it out)

Just last week I saw the whole Origins collection (not the skeleton), complete with all the inks and paraphernalia, in a Bangkok makeshift store on the first floor of the Paragon Mall, and also 3 of the pens at the airport shop.

The 149 Origin looks to be available again on the website

I’ve been getting some pop up email messages but by the time I log in they are already sold out.  I need to jump on it right away if there is any hope to actually catch one. 😅

I looked at Montblanc.com (USA) about an hour ago.

It said:

1. The price in USD was $1,330

2. It was sold out online.

3. It was available in some US based Boutiques (New York, Chicago, Boca Raton)

Good luck!!

You can just try calling boutiques to see if they can ship it to you.

My bad, i think I was on an another country than US website, it is is available in 3 boutiques as you said.
In Europe there is availability again, as it was sold out last week.

No "bad," you did many of us a favor by letting us know that the Origin 149 was available again, even if not in all countries!!

And, as for the pricing, there is no trying to figure that out......even if one does the mathematical "correction" for the differences in the value of the respective currencies, the price is not "uniform" world-wide.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
