Authentic MB 163 (144 size) Rollerball?

I bought this at a flea market, and I want to see if it's real. It looks a lot like my West Germany MB 144 FP, though there are a few differences. There is a dot rather than a dash between the c in "Montblanc" and the M in "Meisterstuck". Also, it's just a few mm bigger. As you can see, it's very lightly engraved. Any idea if it's real? It does appear to have a serial number that's not all over the internet (IK1836617), and I can see a little bit of red when I put it up to the light (just a tiny bit but maybe more than my MB 144 FP).

Thanks so much! If there are any additional pictures you need, please let me know!

Looks like you have an authentic Montblanc 163 Meisterstuck Rollerball. The ballpoint version is the 164 and fountain pen is the 144. Parts are interchangeable among all three for the most part.

Oh yes, I always forget that the BP and RB technically have different numbers. Changed the title of the post accordingly.

Is the dot between the "C" and the "M" typical for 163s?

If it's authentic, then wow! Not bad for $15!

You got it for $15, great deal. Be without fear it’s authentic. Polish it a little and will it shine up nicely.

The dot is normal. Not sure when MB went from 1 dot to 2 hyphens. Here is a pic of my black rollerball that has the dot. My burgundy one has 2 hyphens.  large.1681B062-281D-4562-BC7F-6A8CF1CBC258.jpeg.4454eb4ee4c9c7b078c7e564d2f566d5.jpeglarge.10C5F54F-63AA-4153-B1A9-829733A25B08.jpeg.4adc9020304358c3bdf4746296ac8160.jpeg

Enjoy your great find.

Thanks so much! That's great news!

I've never heard of polishing your MBs. How would you recommend polishing them?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
