I only buy locally and I've never seen this finish here. Also has an interesting lined, chrome-plated section ring. No nib but I have plenty.

(Will arrive in a few days - these are the seller's photos.)

Lovely colour.

Such a pity that they stopped production

Yes, it is available as FP and called Sonnet Metal Blue.

Thanks!  I'll have to look that one up now (oh, yeah, like I REALLY need more pens... :headsmack:).

ETA:  Just looked those up on eBay and they're definitely NOT in my budget at the moment.... :crybaby:

I think I'll grab one at a pen show.

I’m hoping to come to the SF Pen show this year because supposedly there is sungai there who knows everything there is to know about this 51 pen…..it’s clear across the country though so I’m not sure.

Tim Laros knows far far too much about 51s than he should. You can reach out to him.
Mitto is also a knowledgeable resource. I wonder if he has reached 1800 pens yet.

Crosssed 1800 long ago.

Wouldn't tell about the numbers of my plum 51s, though. 😊

I'll need to meet this Tim person.  Think he can find me a 51?

If I didn’t have an abject hatred and distrust of aerometric fillers I might consider a 51. Once bitten by Parker now twice shy. That and also CS

Probably not a 51, but 50s and 52s are readily available…

They have always been workhorses for me. I flush them with water and they write .

I’ve had one that leaked burped, and generally misbehaved. The CS was a lovely Pen, but the filling system was corroded to high heaven and in danger of just going through sacs like they were going out of fashion. Now I won’t touch aero’s with a barge pole. That’s just me

These two.

large.LightDarkLilacPearlGoldenWebP1260008.JPG.08e558cbe6d37f883430472560e02219.JPG

The top one is an English Duofold with one of those amazing Newhaven nibs.  When I bought my copy of Lambrou's Fountain Pens of the World my wife saw a photo of one of these on the dust jacket and it was love at first sight.  I spent more than two decades systematically hunting for one and finally struck paydirt, completely by accident, last year.  I was looking for something else and there it was on my computer screen.  Serendipity exists.  A pen shop in the UK had one for sale on their website.  Finally, I had one of the elusive Light and Dark Lilac Pearl Duofolds in my sights.  Unfortunately, the shop didn't ship to the U.S.  We eventually worked out shipping the pen to one of my Scottish relatives near Aberdeen, Scotland who could then ship it to me.  Then the payment problem cropped up.  The shop only accepted payments in Pounds or funds transfers through English banks.  We eventually worked that one out, too.  It's here and my wife couldn't believe her eyes when she opened the box.  She has maintained for many years that she always thought her dad was the most stubborn man on the planet.  Until she married me.  I prefer the term "tenacity" and sometimes it's a good thing.  The pen is in beautiful condition and is a lovely writer.

The Golden web has been on my wish list for a long time but I never pulled the trigger on one until a few weeks ago.  The price was too good to resist.  The cap rings are loose and the filling system needs work but it is in pretty good shape.  My old reliable vac repair guy is no longer in the business so I will gladly accept recommendations for people who can tighten the rings as well as restore the filling system.

OOOOOOH!  That Duofold sure is pretty! :puddle:  Didn't know they were ever made in that color (I was just ecstatic when I got the Lapis Lazuli one in November, and that pen is now at the top of the list for having a repair person check out at the next pen show I go to...).

Oh wow! I have only ever seen pictures of both of these. Good things come to those who wait, and search endlessly.

A few Parkers from my last trip.

The Yellow Torelli 51 I have had for a few years, but it was stored next to these other 51s.

A Parker VP Aspergillum (Holy Water Sprinkler). Unusual in that it has actually been used.

A 51 Rainbow Cap in Yellow and Rose Gold - Vertical Lines.

A 51 Rainbow Cap in Yellow and Rose Gold - Smooth Cap.

A NOS 61 Rainbow Cap in Silver and Yellow. I do not know if the cap is white gold, silver or ? It has unfamiliar imprints. Came in a “Decorative Box” and Fabric Case.

The Rainbow Cap is more common on a 61. It’s interesting that Parker created the cap while making the 51. This is one of my favorite caps because the curved alternating bands result from the rolling process of the two different metals. No two caps are identical given the unpredictability of the process. I also prefer the solid rolled cap to the embossed cap.

I have to give credit to whomever invented the rolling process that creates the rainbow effect. It could have only been conceived by trial and error.
Ai and 3D printing has nothing on the craftsman of old.
