Mb Egyptomania

Last year, I placed an order for an Egyptomania with an F nib. I had walked in to my regular brick & mortar pen shop, only to be told that they had had one in stock for a couple of days, and it had been sold earlier that same day. So I ordered it, hoping to have it in a month or so.

13 moths later, on Tuesday this week, I stumble upon this thread, and see massoh's post about a vendor in Italy that has a few in stock. I almost pulled the trigger on one of those.

Then yesterday I get a call from my local pen pusher, and he tells me that he just got the pen in the door!

So now I, too, am a happy Egyptomaniac 🙂

 - oh, and for those who are still waiting for theirs, all the hype about the wonderful characteristics of the nib on the Egyptomania is completely justified. It's marvellous!

Congats!!
Do you have the black one or the one with the silver overlay?

I am astonished, that it is so hard to get one.
I walked into the pen shop, saw it and it was already with my favourite nib size BB.
So I was lucky to get one immediately 🙂

It is really a nice pen, you will love it ......

Thanks! It's the basic black one. I was tempted by the silver, but mostly as a stand-in for the elusive Proust. In the end I decided to go with the black, and hope to find a Proust at a flea market someday.

Frankly speaking, my favorite was also the black one. I like it more than his big brother...
But this is a matter of taste.....😉

Would you mind, when you have time, sharing with us a writing sample of your Egyptomania BB nib? Thank you in advance.

Hello......

I did this already in another thread....:

Nib and writing sample...

Thomas

I had the impression we already spoke about this, Thomas... Ah, poor memory...

Thank you again: I have to say once more that the nib is splendid and it writes fantastically!

The more I look at the two models (Black and Doué), the more I like both! Initially I was definitely more attracted to the Doué, but now I find the black and antique patinated bronze furniture also very attractive (and warm to the look). I think Montblanc has done a very good job bringing out the spirit of a vintage looking pen. The Black very much is a faithful reminder of the facetted MB safety pens, while in the Doué I also see the ressemblance of some vintage octagonal MB safety pens with very exquisite silver overlay (some even called Egyptian pen). The only dilemma is the thin metal section. Of course if one compares it to a real vintage safety pen, it's not much thinner 🙂

I agree, the bronze look has a very warm feeling to it. While I agree that the section is thinner than what would be ideal, it's far better on the Egyptomania than on the Rouge & Noir by virtue of the thicker octagonal barrel. It fills the hand a little more, which counteracts the underdimensioned section. As for the real vintage safety pens, that is an experience I have still to look forward to!

I too was initially attracted to the doué, but opted to go with the black both because I prefer the antiquated furniture & because I wanted a pen which could remain unnoticed. The black resin has an understated appeal which I think will pass muster in many contexts. Remarkably, even the snowcap is subtle.

For me definitely represent the black resin one with the bronze (which looks a little bid golden) the pharaohs age.
If you see the Tutanchamun exhibition.......very very little silver....but all golden 🙂

Thomas

thott, thank you very much for the absolutely lovely images of both the inimitable Heritage Collection Egyptomania Fountain Pen and the especially remarkable Tutankhamun exhibition.

I was so moved by your photos, thinking of what it would be like to actually be in the presence of such artifacts, that I had to look up the exhibition, and dear me, it's in Dorset, a 2hours drive from where I frequently spend time off!!  The exhibition runs until Oct 31st.  I have to go!!

I too prefer the black version hence the reason why I bought it.  I wish to actually use the pen and prefer the more conservative, 'less busy' look/appearance.

In Mannheim, about 1 hrs drive at the highway, it is a amazing exhibition with an excellent audio guide. We spent about 2 hours in the museum.

@thott Fantastic website and photos, to echo the above.

I agree that the black version's aesthetic is more in line with at least what has been transferred to the popular imagination concerning the Egyptian palette & tastes. That much in addition to its subtlety being better suited for my purposes.

In any event, mine is now sitting in the chilly hold of some cargo plane or other & should be here next week! I will probably run it through a single fill before I send it to Mike Masuyama. Like many others, I was unable to get a nib other than F or M without an absurd wait.

For me it was the black version first. The nib was exchanged to an OB which took about 12 weeks. It became a daily writer as soon as i received and then i couldn't resist the doue too. It took a couple of months wait for the pen and another 12 week for the nib exchange to OBB. They're both beautiful to write with and absolute favorites.

Ideed!

They are both amazing pens and the nibs are beautiful.
I like broad nibs. My Egyptomania has a BB nib and it writes fantastic.....

3 month for a nib change is quite long. Did you mail the pen to Germany or could you do it in India?
