What is the best Demonstrator pen for a budget of under 50 dollars?

For under 50 dollars, probably TWSBI or a Pilot Prera, Pilots are very good quality and TWSBI has a good reputation

 

There are several decent quality demonstrators from Chinese brands, but I'd advise being very careful to do research on specific models because quality control and materials are not the same as other, better brands, sometimes there are even issues like the pens simply cracking and becoming unusable under normal use. What sort of features are you looking for like filling system, interchangeable nibs, pen size, completely clear or translucent? You can probably find them in a Chinese pen but there's a good chance you will have to do some work on the pen yourself to get it working as you like.

 

I do not recommend the Nemosine Singularity demonstrator, I quite like many aspects of it, but the plastic is not sturdy and is definitely prone to cracking.

 

Whichever pens you think are good candidates, don't buy a pen without considering how it will fit in your hand and daily use, think about questions such as is the length and balance right or too top heavy, is it too wide or skinny for you, can you get another nib if something happens to the one that comes in it, is it easy to clean, those kinds of things are worth being a bit picky about at this price point.

I have no idea if the Wing Sung 698 is the best, but I find it well made, comfortable to use, sturdy, and reliable. No complaints.

I would suggest checking out the Jaipur Demonstrator from Fountain Pen Revolution. A very nice pen for $18.

The Pilot Prera is an excellent option for tinkering - since you can swap the nib with the Plumix for additional shading and line variation. But for budget demonstrators, I think the TWSBI Eco is still the gold standard for value.

 

I just got one for my wife and it's a fantastic writer, beautifully displays the ink in a clear barrel, and the Diamine we push through it flows smoothly for long periods of time without skipping.

Welcome to FPN! I'd second a vote for the TWSBI Eco - well under your budget and a fantastic pen, let alone demonstrator, for only $30.
