A Warning For Montblanc Nib Replacement Service

Fellow FPNers, I recently had a terrible experience with the Montblanc nib replacement service.

 

I purchased a F nib Montblanc 1912 and sent for a nib replacement, I left a note and confirmed with the Montblanc operator that I would like to have an extra fine nib.

 

10 weeks later, I finally got the pen back, to my surprise, Montbalnc got me a Oblique Medium nib instead. The current nib looks like a snow shuffle, the tipping is just flat, I wonder how can any one call that an extra fine.

You might ask Montblanc. But what exactly is the issue? If you do not think the shipped it with the correct nib simply return it and ask them to try again, but what you show does not look like an oblique nib of any width.

 

Mistakes can happen. The pen is new and so simply return it through the original seller and ask for an EF nib.

Mistakes happen. I would just send a nice note to MB pointing out the problem and see what they say. I suspect they'll apologize and offer to correct the mistake.

Jar, I call it oblique nib according the picture below, it looks more likely to be a straight oblique nib than an extra nib showing on the second picture.

 

The second picture is from a modern 149.

 

Anyway, the current nib on my 1912 looks more likely to be the straight oblique nib from the first picture. It does not looks like the second picture at all.

A straight nib is not an oblique nib. That source is simply incorrect. Oblique nibs are slanted.

 

And yes, the second picture is an EF nib. Simply contact the seller and get the nib changed.

Thank you Jar and Mulrich, I will contact Montblanc and now I just want my original nib back. Now I would rather let some nib master to do it, or just keep the original nib is good enough for me.

 

I will keep posting about the progress.

I had to wait 13 weeks for my nib exchange. I had it done via a boutique and I never received a single status call from the boutique. I was quite disappointed in MB's service.

Not an EF. Looks like a regular F - but guesswork involved with photographs alone etc.

 

Poor service. I'd be annoyed.

I guess all that I can say is good luck. I guess it might somehow depends on the models. For 146/149, probably they have a lot of nibs in stock, as for 1912, they might don't have enough nib in stock.

I think we probably should call it a stub fine/medium nib, to be more accurate. The tipping is almost gone and the the top is flat, I think that is the identical description of a stub nib from Richard Binder's webiste (http://www.richardspens.com/?page=ref/nibs/primer.htm).

 

More than 10 weeks wait and I got this, really annoying and disappointed.

 

I will contact Montblanc tomorrow and want my original nib back.

I guess all that I can say is good luck. The current nib that I have, should to be called as a stub fine/medium nib, to be more accurate.

Update: FYI, here is what the original 1912 should looks like, I found some picture of a Fine nib from here(http://www.penaddict.com/blog/2015/9/11/montblanc-heritage-1912-review) Please prepare to be amazed if you think my current nib is a regular Fine nib, compare the original Fine nib and you shall be amazed!

Be careful, on FPN the rules are clear, you aren't allowed to post topics here that are critical of brands or sellers.

Likely the admins will just delete your post, though they might leave it to critique the claim of whether your description of the nib type is correct.

I just double checked and it is said that "personal criticisms is not allowed and will be removed."

 

I am not criticizing my seller, my seller is very responsible. I am 100% satisfied with my seller. I am just saying the nib swap is not pleasant, as a consumer. LOL

Yes, especially if it is about Mb...that's a BIG no no! :D

I'm currently on week 17 for my Ultra Black nib exchange. Also through the boutique that I purchased from, also no updates. Very disappointing.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks?       It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
