Historical Prices For Mont Blanc Pens

Hi, I am new to this site and had a question regarding MB prices. I was bought a MB Meisterstuck Rollerball by my team at work, back in 2008. As our birthday budget back then was around £150-180, I assume that this is how much they cost then (I think that I also bought a Starwalker Rollerball as a gift, around then, at a similar price).

Is this correct? I ask because I have just looked at the MB website and it looks like the same pen now costs £330?!

I realise that it was 8 years ago, but could they really double the price in 8 years?

Thanks!

Depends on whether you're looking at the same model pen or not. For instance, there are different size pens with different prices which would all qualify as a 'Meisterstuck rollerball'.

Actually, I've become interested in this question and I took a look at prices today vs prices in 1993 (using data from this price list). I couldn't be sure about which RB/BP models matched today's offering so I compared FPs.

The price of a 149 has increased at an average of approx. 4.7%pa, 146 by 4% and 144 by 4.4%, and the list prices have more than doubled. Interestingly, the price of ink has increased by 5.2%pa. Over the same period, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has increased by 9.9%pa and U.S. CPI (inflation) by 2.3%pa.

My Meisterstück Le Grand 161 platinum ballpoint also increased slightly since I bought it in 2012.

Thanks for the replies. How would I tell which Meisterstuck I have? The pen is approx 13.5cm long (with cap on) and it has no markings, other than the usual ones, plus the code round the top of the cap (starting XR...).

Thanks

Some pictures would help to start with, especially section, nib & feed shots that can be useful to identify certain types of pens.

IIRC the first 149 I bought was $75.00 but on sale for $60.00 with a "V" shape bottle of ink and a leather zipper pouch. The ink was $0.75 per bottle so I bought an extra one.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
