Great Service From Komamono-Honpo A Global Rakuten Seller

Other online retailers usually charge freight for 300 g. Maybe they add a bit of the shipping cost into the item price.

But 700 g is just because they want to make more profit, since they are selling the bottles so cheap. I can't see any other explanation.

330gms is the actual weight. I don't know what retailers charge but this is the actual weight.

Just see the shipping label when the parcel comes in and what weight is printed on it. Postal service won't support this money debauchery by declaring incorrect weight.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Postal services do not engage in declaring wrong weight of the item.

I just got the following:

Dear customer,

Thank you for your order ref.

Shipping fee for your order is 1880yen.

The total amount of your order comes to 2930yen. (1134yen+1880yen-84yen)

You will receive the E-mail with URL later.

Please register to make payment using it.

After you confirm about it , please reply [ORDER AUTHORIZED] for us to process shipment.

Your order will become effective upon your confirmation.

Sincerely yours,

Komamono-honpo

I replied with a request for the amount in US dollars since I have no idea how Yen translates to dollars. Pretty fast reply though!

I still think you should take the cheaper shipping. :P

I ordered 11 bottles and my shipping fee was 3500 yen. Granted those were sailor bottles and EMS but in your case shipping charges are more than cost of the item.

Don't forget that you might have to pay import duties and fees.

I don't know what the rules are in the US, but here in Europe the customs are quite zealous.

Here, for the average American, rarely, if ever, do we have to worry about duties or fees when receiving packages from another country B). US Customs holds on to packages for a day before releasing it to be delivered--if I order something from japan, I receive it in 5 to 6 day. :yikes:

Hi, this is my fifth order from a Rakuten shop this year and I have not had any additional charges or delays with any of these orders. The only delays I ever endure are occasionally from individual sellers from the UK and EU and even at that, there are no additional duties.

With the great ratings and consistent shipping from K-H, I believe we're good with this shop!

But charging shipment for 700 g for one bottle of ink. Sounds a bit over the top for me...

I've never had to pay anything extra on my ebay chinese pen purchases for duties. Oregon has no sales tax so that isn't a problem either. It is a concern that the shipping is more than the cost of the ink. I sent a reply to see if there is a less expensive shipping option.

I also requested a cheaper shipping alternative. I don't want it sent as EMS.

Certainly the correct weight is stated on the package. But then it's too late, then I've already paid the freight.

I got the total price down to JPY 2300, with Small Package Service. Unfortunately no tracking with that option, just to keep the fingers crossed.

Actually, I found a bottle of Shin Kai on Amazon for $18.49. Free shipping. I've cancelled the Rakuten order.

Placed my order for 2 bottles of Iro ink and 3 CON-50 converters and they quoted me 2200 for shipping fee. Should I go along with that?

My last shipping charge from K-H was ¥2500, so you're doing great.

Do they send you an email with a payment link? I have received a quote, and have confirmed this is okay. However, I have received another email in Japanese and can't understand it!

What does the subject/sender say?

I believe there are 3 mails

1. When you place the order

2. One with shipping fee all japanese

3. After approval mail

Look for familiar numbers like cost and shipping fee or use Google translate.

The email in Japanese is just a receipt. You will get a separate email with link to the PayPal-payment.

What seller?

The seller was Value's Japan. I find on the Iroshizuku inks on Amazon the prices and vendors you can buy it from change a lot, so I refresh the link until I see the price point I'm looking for.

  • 2 weeks later...

It has arrived! :)

12 days by standard mail (no tracking), quite OK imho.

Packed in a box, which was packed in another box. One layer of bubble wrap around the product box, and quite a lot of foam sheets tucked around the boxes. In other words, it was well packed.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
