Two Mont Blanc-Y Questions

Alexcat

Recommended Posts

Firstly.....and hoping it's ok to post this( I always seem to be asking that....) I saw this( won't put any detail other than pic).....and having been bitten by the ripoff bug before, I wonder....is it real?

The second isn't a question as such....just a drool.......

Two pics of the "is it genuine" followed by one of the drool.....well, not a photo of my actual drool - that would not be A Good Thing....a bit of pen porn.....

I am so wary of MBs where I dont know the seller or the full provenance, I know someone in Singapore who says that he can buy a replica MB. any MB other than piston filled pens, that would fool all but the most expert.

The red heritage looks dramatic doesnt it - they are so cumbersome to use though, an MB employee described them to me as 'impossible'.

A friend of mine purchased a couple of MB copies from Aliexpress...they are indeed remarkable copies at about tenUSD each!

The pics of the Boheme are kind of small, so it's difficult to provide an answer one way or the other about its authenticity. A couple of questions pop to mind:

- Where is it being sold and roughly for how much? (you can say where and/or PM the link, but DO NOT PUT IN A LINK IN THE THREAD - PER FPN RULES)

- Is there a gemstone in the clip?

- Is the Boheme the retractable version or the non-retractable version?

These might help us give you some better advice...

If the Boheme is the retractable version, cartridge only, then I think you are safe to assume it's authentic. I have only ever seen fake Bohemes with converters.

This one does look authentic though.

The box that the Boheme is in looks authentic to me. A nice tightly closed slot for the pen to be pushed down into

Yeah that Boheme is genuine. The "blind cap" had an indent to it and the fakes don't have that.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
