No I did not find any need to swap the Nib... But it was really smooth nib

I have 4 of these now, but only have one inked at the moment. It does write very well, wet but not too broad.

 

However, it has a definite problem starting, being bone dry even after a couple of hours. Requires a 'swish' in a little water to get it going. Once it's going, there is no ink of skipping or anything.

 

I've now inked a second to see how it compares. The nibs do need a little Micromeshing to get the best smoothness though.

Probably the cap is not air tight. Have you tried to blow in it to see?

YOU CAN EAR AIR BLOW / DRY FAST CAP NEED SOME GLUE ON THE CLIP/CAP

I just picked up a Jin Hao X450 off of ebay for something like 6 bucks. (Bought it on a lark, really.)

 

For that money, it's worth the try.) The thing writes better than my Meisterstuck. A little bit unbalanced with the lid on, but Wow! It writes smooth as butter. Very nice looking with a gold-plated medium nib. Works with cartridges. Comes with a manual fill cartridge.

 

It's my new every-day writer now. Dang! I hate to say it but this is a quality pen. You have to give credit where credit's due.

I have one of these inked up with Diamine Wild Strawberry. It's a great writer, but I don't need a red ink constantly, so it works out great for that purpose.

Mine (champagne gold) arrived today, and this one required quite a bit of nib smoothing using 8000 & 12000 grit micromesh. Now it really does write smooth & wet. Purchased it to keep in my purse so that I don't have to keep changing pens. For $2.49 it has a screw on cap, which is hard to believe. Like that cap with the wide band. Will be ordering a black & green one. At $2.49, I am not spending a lot of money for pens to keep in my purse/pocket for signing.

mine was same way with dry start.

 

 

My cap had a leak where the clip attaches to the cap. Used a qtip and spread some glue on the inside where the clip attaches. Sealed the leak and now it starts wet every time. Great pen.

I was given one of these recently, and inked it up with yellow ink (a prototype sample). Bad mistake: when I left it for more than a couple of days, the ink was crudding up all over the nib. I suspect the ink may be to blame (it's done this on other pens too), but also evaporation due to an air interchange happening *somewhere* around the junction of the cap and the clip. I'll try treating with glue or shellac - thanks for the suggestion! - and see if it makes a difference.

 

Gotta say, though, it's a beaut looking pen, and writes really nicely!

Largely on the strength of the reviews here, I just put in an order for one of those bright apple-green ones. It'll be a month or two before it arrives on a (literal) slow boat from China, but that just means that it'll be a pleasant surprise when I get it.

Just reporting back (see previous post): applying shellac around the inside top of the cap, around the (internal) junction between cap and clip, seems to have done the trick - no more nib crud (though admittedly I've changed inks as well!), and no more dry-out. Gonna have to try this on a few other pens now...
