Another fabulous review and a really generous colour sample. Thank you. I've fallen for greys recently but feel I've found my fave early on in my quest, PR Gray Flannel. It's a total joy to write with and is dark enough to read easily. I use Gris Nuage in a water brush purely to shade sketches. Like others here, I found it way too light. As I did Fuyu Soygun. I use Diamine Grey to mute other inks in my mixes. . . .

Excellent and comprehensive review. I've been using Lex and Grey for charcoal and medium true (IMO) greys free of other colors. The tenacity of Lex in your test is consistent with my experience in cleaning out a pen after its use. A highly labor intensive exercise.

Great review.

I've only a few grey inks, picking up the new 90 year MB gray in the morning.

I lucked out and got a few cartridges of '90's Pelikan Gray & Silver gray. Too bad Pelikan don't make Silver gray any more.

 

DA Cement gray, reminds me of a slightly wet concrete flight line as sunrise grays the horizon of dawn break.

Thank you for another amazing and probably labor-intensive ink comparison! I think these are my favorite...what a visual feast! After many samples of greys, I discovered I'm not a huge fan of grey inks either. I would love to try Gris de Payne--where we can find those inks? Also curious about how you made the splashes. Is that computer generated? Sorry if you explained this somewhere else.

This is amazing. Those splashes! I think they're my favorite part of your entire review.

 

Thank you so much for doing this. All of this is so useful - especially the hour-long soaks to test for water resistance. I don't have any grey inks myself, but after seeing this I think I'll try a few. I'm especially drawn to Oyster Grey - there's something really sophisticated about it to my eyes.

I don't have any grays in my still meager arsenal, but I probably will in the future, and when I decide to get one (or some), I'm going to come back and look at this comparison. Very well done!

I've only tried a few of these but I voted for De Atramentis Silbergrau. Makes me think of silverpoint drawings whenever I use it.

Hmmm. I just realized that I haven't used it for awhile.... :headsmack:

I have Fuyu Syogun, which I just don't know what to do with.

 

I got samples of Arsenic, Graphite and Walt Whitman (which is green but close enough to this sort of grey color I'm interested in) on the way from the Goulets.

Just found your incredible and comprehensive review of gray inks.....

 

Almost overwhelming....

 

Never thought there were so many shades of gray..... ;)

 

Only gray I have is probably what everyone thinks is the worst of the bunch....JHerbin Gris Nuages.....

Used it once.... :)

 

Oh well....
