Making A Pen Case

As you can see the colour has evened out as I thought (hoped) it would the bends are still a little damp but it looks really good so far.

My attempt at a double curve on the lid is not working I think it will be better straight but I will sleep on it before I get the blade out.

This picture shows my model pen inside the case i had thought of adding some padding here but I did not want to push my luck

The Sam Browne stud works exactly as the guys in the shop said that it would.

The next stage is to mark and pierce the holes for the needle and stitch it together then the colour.

Thanks for looking

Michael

I have trimmed the lid and I think it looks much better now.

As you can see the model pen fits perfectly so as long as the model is the right size it will be spot on.

What type of glue did you use? Some time ago I posted a topic asking if there are any glues that should be avoided because ingredients might have some effect on the plastic the pens are made from. I didn't get a response.

I use a water proof PVA glue this is only to hold the pieces together for stitching and will be similar to the glue used to make the box the pen came in.

What are you looking to glue?

While fpn was down I managed to finish the case for Vera's Omas 360 the prototype was fine but had picked up a couple of dings during the process.

Micheal -

I just now caught up as my computer was not loading these pages properly before the boards went down. Lovely!

You have shared much with me and others here during 2013 - may 2014 bring this kindness back to you multiplied many times over!

The edges need to be finished and the whole case needs a good polish its twin needs to be stitched together and finished the same way

I am also making two trays for a writing slope although I will post about them in another thread.

Thanks for looking

I will sew it first and then dye everything at the same time as I did with Vera's the white thread takes the dye quite well

Hey,

These cases are pretty good, how long have you been doing this? I do quite a fair bit of leather work myself, and I can't fine much to fault here. Maybe watch what angle you're punching the holes at, that'll make sure all the stitches are straight on both sides. Also, if it were me I'd use a bradawl rather than a chisel, but if it works for you then stick with it!

I look forward to seeing more of your work!!!

Keep it up,

Joe

Oh, and what thread are you using? Always use Nylon thread or waxed cotton for leather, other threads aren't as likely to hold properly.

Again, nice work.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
