Thanks to a great email from Jay calming my fear of writing in cracks and over humps, I went for it and ordered the one with the cream paper. If this stuff is all it's cracked up to be, I feel a special topic notebook coming on.

Has anyone had any trouble with bleed through at all?

Thanks--AQ

The notebook internal pages have a separated cloth binding (like a real hardcover book) so that if you open it all the way it mostly lays flat, though you still have the page gutter.

For bleed through I haven't seen any, though I only have xf,f, and medium nibs. There is a bit of ghosting because this paper is so thin, but it's not too bad. I don't know what your writing pen + ink combo is, so you might have to only use one side of paper. With my setup I can use both sides. Every pen I try on this paper feels so amazingly nice. When comparing pens it's almost dangerous to only test on this tomoe paper because you think "wow, this is one of the smoothest writing pens ever" until you switch back to more normal paper :)

I have found that some ink mixes of my own, that contain a little red ink, do show a little bleeding. I have also found this with PR Black Cherry. I have started to stay away from this paper with inks that are decidedly red in tone, but most purples seem to be doing OK.

I agree with bleair, that the writing experience on this paper is extremely smooth, and even pens that drag a little on other paper seem to be gliding along... In fact, I am finding this paper is spoiling me for other papers that I used to think of as very FP friendly.

My order is in--guess I'll just have to try every combination of ink and pen until I decide! This is the highest-end paper I've ordered to date; starting to feel pretty hep!

There is no hepper paper than Tomoegawa.

Then I've got a two-pack of hep headed my way...

Is it me or is "Tomoegawa" just plain fun to say?

Not as fun as "Parangaricutirimícuaro"

Of course, "Tomoegawa" does benefit by being spoken like a Japanese gangster.

I received my first notebook last week and have decided it is so magnificent that I will use it for a five-year journal, beginning this coming Jan. 1. Have made a simple template to line each page into five sections, plenty of space for 3-4 lines of handwriting about what each day brought. If I am able to convince myself that my "Morning Pages" are worth such fine paper, I will be ordering more of these lovely books. Thank you for making them available, Jay!

I love this idea. Have you considered adding a few pages Jay and making a 366 page journal for the diarists among us?

I love the good old hand written letter.

That's a great idea & a good use of these notebooks. I like it.

True. Much classier than Ichi The Killer.

Was that the one they handed out rolf bags at the premier?

Great suggestion, enolafeltpen. I had thought I would just cut 23 additional sheets, same size as the existing pages, and insert them at the back of the journal. But if Jay would make one with enough pages for each day of a year I'd order it in a heartbeat!

What are rolf bags?

Used to catch emesis products of the GI tract. Heard somewhere they did that as PR for one of his premiers...

Not sure how such an unsavory discussion became embedded in a thread devoted to such a wonderful journal. I'm marveling how my oversized nibs finally have paper that makes the most of their flow.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
