How Did You Customize Your Midori Traveler's Notebook?

I use my MTN with a standard blank or ruled refill. I extended the notebook with two zipperfiles and three cardfiles.

Well, I bought some rather neon animal beads at Michael's. I think I'll be returning them because of the colors plus not as detailed as Sarge's cool rhino bead.

Maybe the rhino bead is not to be. :-(

Update:

I found some beads on Etsy that look more detailed, so I ordered them. If they are as good looking as Sargetalon's rhino bead, I'm sure I'll have enough to share some with others here who liked the red rhino.

The shop is called 6060 Eyes because the person also makes toys and sells eyes for them.

She also has a version with sea creatures. I liked those as well, but I won't be using all the animal beads I'm getting, so I couldn't add even more just to get a turtle.

I found it by searching for animal shaped beads, and that was one of the sites my search found.

See if this link works:

Hi Jim, my beads arrived today (a day ahead of schedule, yea USPS), and they are nicely detailed. Some colors are pastel bright and some are deeper, understated colors. The red is on the coral side. I'm happy with them, just don't know what I'll do with the 70+ beads.

I asked the seller for a good variety of colors for the rhino beads, and there certainly are. They might not be the deal Sargetalon got, but it saved going to more stores looking for them. I need to return the inferior ones to Michael's.

I will gladly buy a few of them for a few bucks. I don't need 70+ much like you. Send me 4-8 and I will be fine.

Thanks for the link. I trolled Ebay Rhino Beads but couldn't find ones with Horizontal, front to back drilling. All I saw were a vertical Top to bottom Hole , hence wouldn't work on the Horizontal Midori Closure. Have an awesome weekend, Jim

Only got two red rhinos in my beads, and one is heading out with others in a trade. Funny how it works when you get close to 80 beads and only two are the red rhino.

Currently, I carry a Kindle Paperwhite (in a form fitting case) along with a small notebook (roughly the size of a Midori) when I travel, I'd like to know if it is possible to make space or customize Midori to accomodate a Kindle.

According to the dimensions posted on the website of both the products, it should be possible.

Kindle Paperwhite (only Wi-Fi): 169 mm x 117 mm x 9.1 mm

Midori: 218 mm x 130 mm x 10 mm

I can attest to the fact that the Kindle measurements are true, but it would be of great help if any of the Midori (and Kindle) owners could let me know if they could fit in a Kindle and the possible kind of customization they would suggest for it.

There are a gazillion photos of how folks have customized their Midori Traveler's notebooks on the Traveler's Notebook photo pool on Flickr.

Enjoy!

Just Fabulous! Thanks for sharing.

I have a Kindle Voyage and an over-sized faux-dori Traveler's notebook. I couldn't figure out away to secure the Kindle, so I just put it in the notebook, and secure the whole thing with the strap. So far, it's been fine for the last month with no issues of it falling out. I flew with it Monday for the first time with no problems either. I just slide it out when I want to read, and I don't even have to remove the closure strap.

Open View

Kindle loose on the back cover. I thought about velcro, but did'n't want to peel/unpeel it when I wanted to read. I also didn't like the idea of having to read the Kindle attached in some way to the entire faux-dori, which would make it quite heavy/bulky.

Side View

As you can see it comes up really close to the edge in this oversized faux-dori because my inserts/notebooks take up some of the width of the cover.

Hi folks! I'm sold on these Midori Travelers notebooks. This is a genius solution.

I have just one reservation...

I frequently write with fountain pens (this is FPN after all!) and my pen of choice is thicker still than the larger of the two Len loops will allow.

Has anyone come up with a solution for keeping a larger pen with them? For those with the zipper pouch, would it feel awkward to keep a pen in there?

Thanks!

Mike

I use the smaller pen loop, which is about the right size for a clip. I insert the pen clip into the loop and then secure the body of the pen with the elastic that wraps around the notebook.

I hope that made sense.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
