J. Herbin - Ambre De Birmanie

I am seriously in love with this ink. It will be in my daily carry pen for a while. Or at least until my bottle of Shin-kai arrives. This ink loves a dip pen, too. Forgive my heavy-handed example above, but perhaps you can see the promise. In better hands, this would be remarkable dipped.

 

Sketch was done with Ambre de Birmanie, J. Herbin Bouton d'Or (the most useless ink I've ever put in a pen) and a touch of Iroshizuku Shin-kai. Not a success but that is hopefully more my total lack of experience with these three inks than anything else. I still have hope.

 

Reasonable care was taken to ensure color accuracy.

I've been using Ambre de Birmanie in my Ondoro with a broad nib. Might not work so well with a fine or drier nib but but that combination of ink and pen worked very nicely, and the ink was definitely dark enough to be readable.

I've been using Ambre de Birmanie in my Ondoro with a broad nib. Might not work so well with a fine or drier nib but but that combination of ink and pen worked very nicely, and the ink was definitely dark enough to be readable.

 

I find it just dark enough in my Lamy 2000 F/M to use out in the world. I wouldn't for anything official, of course, but it is very legible for notes and letters.

I've updated the photos to more closely approximate the lightness of this ink in daylight. I need to stop working on these at night. It is difficult to judge how bright paper white should be under low level artificial light.

 

Here's a real world photo in a thin-paged textbook. No feathering, no bleedthrough, and minimal show-through. Not color accurate but the lightness should be about right.

Its an absolutely nice ink, was worth to buy. Apparently a few of my friends liked the writing samples with it.
