Meisterstuck model ID help please

I have been given a Mont Blanc pen new in the original black plastic gift box (box made in Holland)

It is a black resin with gold trim model with removable cap (not twist type).

It has a Mont Blanc ball point refill inside as well as a small spacer at the end of the pen that located against the

end of the refill to stop it rattling around.

On the round part of the pocket clip is engraved Germany with a serial number.

On the larger middle band of the cap is engraved MONTBLANC-MEISTERSTUCK.

What is the model number of this pen?

Is this type of pen (removable cap with no twist mechanism) still in production?

I have emailed Mont Blanc support but they have not replied.

Thanks for any information.

Thanks Bart. It does indeed look like a 163.

However it has a ball pen refill with the little metal spacer as per the picture.

According to the web, the length of a roller ball refill is 4 3/8" and of a ball pen refill is 3 7/8".

The refill in my pen does not look like the pictures on the web as it has a much longer black plastic section at the back and is 4 3/8" long which as mentioned should be the length of a roller ball refill.

Something does not add up.

Also, why would an expensive pen like this have a little cheap looking metallic spacer inserted behind the refill?

Im not sure what it is, but its not like any 163s I have seen. Every Roller, Ive seen has a screw on cap. Although I have only seen 4, so Im not expert. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Hmm, I didn't pay much attention to the refill. But AFAIK the only MB roller ball without a threaded cap is the 163 (which belongs to the Chopin).

The 163 should be still in production.

When I got new ballpoint refills they sometimes had that black plastic cap at the end. But I have never owned a rollerball by MB.

Does the refill fit into the pen with the black plastic but without the little metal piece?

Yes the ball pen refill as in the picture needs the small metal spacer otherwise it rattles in the body an pops back in each time you try and write with the pen.

Is it possibly a Generations model rollerball (I'm pretty sure they have snap on caps) that someone has tried to fit a ballpoint refill in? Looks alittle screwy...

It says Mesiterstuck so I doubt it's a Generation model.

Has anyone else's pen got that small metal refill spacer?

What's confusing is that this pen already has the longest refill inserted but still needs the spacer?

Are we heading down the fake route or could this still be a lesser known genuine model?

Scratch that...The cap band says Meisterstuck so it can't be a Generations model..duh  ..I'll just go with a rollerball with BP refill...never knew you could fit those?

This is NOT a generations they have flat-ish tops.

I THINK that this is a FAKE. The only thing that looks real is the serial number. A close up would reveal if it was imprinted or laser etched.

Look at the joint between the tip where the star is and the clip. There are two huge spaces there.

Also, a close up of the quality of the cap band imprint would be helpful.

This is just the analog to the classique. I think you could actually on the old models switch the FP section w/ the RB section and everything else was the same.

I have this same size pen in LE. No metal spacer.

The pen in this auction is fake, and it has a unique serial number...

Yup, that DEFIANTLY looks geniune! Thanks for the great pic!

Perhaps it's an older model, before they required the screw-in ink?

Looks more genuine each time I look at it...

I think it's an older 163.

Thanks for all of the useful replies.

However I still don't know what pen this is,

Seems like a hybrid as it appears that only roller balls had clip on caps but mine is a ball pen with such a cap and is too long to fit a

roller refill.

What's disappointing is the lack of response from the folks at the Mont Blanc website whom I emailed.

Thanks again.

Well, there is nothing curious with the pen. It's an original but older (not vintage) Classique rollerball #163 with a ballpen refill. If you like to use it as a rollerball, just put a rollerball refill inside (no matter of a screw thread or not) and use it as a roller. If you like to use it as a caped ballpen, you need the little "adapter" and put a ballpen refill inside.

BTW - it works with all Classique rollerballs, no matter if it's just the Meisterstück resin line or from the Meisterstück Solitaire lines.

Axel

Many thanks Axel.

That all makes sense.

Searching for refills in the Mont Blanc site, it appears that all of the ball pen refills are for the twist type pen only, shorter and without the black plastic extension as in the picture. Google image search seems to confirm that this type of refill is quite scarce and when it runs out I may have to replace it with a roller ball refill and hopefully it will fit.

  • 8 months later...

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but the refill has now run out.

I am going to have to order online as I cant seem to find refills in South Africa.

In your opinion will a standard rollerball refill fit without having to use the little metal spacer?

I dont want to go to the trouble of an international order and then find that the refill does not fit.

see pictures of the pen in post 3 here

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
