Montblanc 144 Flat Top

Couldn’t resist when I saw this on PSP site. Some of the photos are borrowed from there because it will be a bit before I have time to properly photograph. Info PSP posted says Collectible Stars has this pen made 1960-61, so right after production of the cigar shaped celluloid pen stopped and well before the introduction of the CC 144. Teri told me it’s the only one they’ve ever seen, and it’s certainly the only one I’ve ever seen. Was in Dromgoole’s this weekend and Michael told me it’s the only one he’s ever seen as well. Very little info available on the web so if anyone has more info or owns one I’d love to know about it.

Lovely little pen. Took a photo of it with my wife’s MKII Duofold International and realized that capped they’re a similar size. Diameter is similar also. Piston filler. Nib is EF with smooth ebonite feed. Very fine, nice and bouncy with a tiny bit of flex and excellent ink flow. A hair finer than the EF semi-flex nib on my circa 1952-53 Pelikan 400 but with far less flex as a comparison. Filled with MB Mystery Black right now and a really nice writer. A little cap damage and repair as seen in the photos and some scratches and plating wear but hey, it’s a senior citizen! The stars are in remarkable shape. And I love the blue ink window in the threads, don’t think I’ve seen that in another pen. All in all just a great old pen and a cool bit of history.

Edit: The pen is resin. Just in case that wasn’t obvious.

Another pen to look after. The only frustration will be the asking price, but it will be fun in the search.

Thank you for the info. One of the nice things about PSP is that the pen is vetted before it’s put up for sale so I didn’t have any concerns about authenticity.@jchch1950 good luck with your search.

Nice find!

Almost all models have cap cracks by now due to a construction fault.

Good to know, thank you. The repair on this one leaves a little to be desired aesthetically but appears to work well. It can sit for a few days and starts right up.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
