Classique 144 fountain and ballpoint set

Hello I have a late 80's 144 set and I am looking at two issues

The fountain pen has a broken part where it should pierce the cartridge and will need a part if they are available

The ballpoint had a barrel crack where it screws in but it seems stable and the mechanism will easily twist however when the ballpoint comes out its a mm or so shy of being extended properly.

I've attached a photo of the ballpoint

Any advice on repairing these at home?

Thanks

Nope. Better to take them to Montblanc boutique and have them send it for repair. You'll probably only have to pay < $100 each to have them replace the parts with new parts. You'll be getting back essentially new pens. Well worth the cost.

I would not send the fountain pen if you like it,  but I would the ballpoint. Check Pentooling or 5 Star Pens  (in the US, I don’t know who is the good parts person overseas) for a new 144 fountain pen section. I remember reading that MB no longer has parts for the 144, and sent a forum member a modern equivalent pen. If you like the nib, look for the part, but if the modern version appeals to you, send it in.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 20 currently inked pens:

Sheaffer 100 Satin Blue M, Pelikan Moonstone/holographic mica

Parker T1, Dominant Industry Dominant Blue

Pilot Custom 743 <FA>, Oblation Sitka Spruce

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

Waterman 52 EF, Herbin Bleu Pervenche

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

They are pretty straightforward repairs, if you can get the parts.

Basically replacing broken components - again, if you can find the replacement parts.

Have you tried a different refill in the ballpoint?

The Repairs Q&A forum is good with this sort of stuff.

I also agree with above members suggestions; send to Montblanc for service, it's a fool-proof fix (at a cost, naturally).

But home-repair is also a valid route, in many cases.

Good luck.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
