When Did MB149 Change Cap Threads?

I'm interested in a desk pen holder for my MB149 but I'm beginning to see some eBay sellers talk about different cap threads. When did MB change the thread design?  Thanks in advance.  Dave

The cap threads changed on the 146 also. I have a couple which I would date (using the pinned post from member neugeekig) around 1991 (+/-?) that differ from each other in many features. Their caps are certainly not interchangeable. Hope this helps, if only a little. Sadly it seems that cap threads (3-start or 4-start) is not a parameter in his table. I also checked the pinned 'dating 149' and '149 trends' posts without success. Actually, specifying that you want a 3-start or a 4-start thread rather than looking at dates may suffice.

You don't know what you need until you realise you haven't got it.

I can’t help with specifici dates, but based on my experience you do not need to thread your pen to the pen holder tulip in order for the nib to not dry.
I have three 149 pen holders (resin with lead crystal), all with internal threads, which I constantly use with my 149s, Hemingway and Dumas. I just slip the pens in the holders, and I never had a nib that dried up in the tulip.

Actually, the last batches of the same pen holder produced by Montblanc for the 149 were not threaded at all, but smooth inside, just to slip the pen in.

Also, not having the pen screwed in, makes it immediately available for writing, which is a great advantage of a pen holder in the desk.

Wooow, seriously, fpupulin! You're spoiling us! What hath thou wrought with that Ernest and Traveler's! That drawing looks more like a very high quality etching than a drawing! Amazing!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
