Montblanc Meisterstuck 147 - Cracked Tail Cap (Repairable?)

I posted this in the repair forum but maybe it would have been more appropriate to post it in the Montblanc section?

----

Hi All,

A friend gave me a Montblanc 147, which I'm thrilled about. However, it has two cracks in the cone/tail cap/finial (whats it called?). The cartridge sled had been frozen inside, however i managed to get it out. I suspect the last owner over tightened the tail cap trying to wrestle out the frozen cartridge sled out - splitting it in two places. I'm wondering if its repairable.

I've read about the problems attempting to repair MB resin/plastic. However i recall (maybe mis-remembering) @Ron Z mentioning that n-butyl cyanoacrylate might work on MB resin. Very curious to know if anyone's had success with it repairing MB resin?

Also, has tried 3M LO100 or 3M Scotch-Weld PR100 with or without their adhesive primer and had any success with that?

Thanks @meiers I may do that.

I wrote to My Jewelry Repair curious to know whether they had the parts for the 147 - after reading about some instances with folks getting pens returned from them as parts not available after paying the required to/fro shipping.

Heard back from them:

Thank you for contacting My Jewelry Repair. We believe we can help you with this repair. We are the official U.S. authorized Montblanc Service Center. Repairs begin at $85 – repair cost can rise significantly depending on the instrument model and scope of repairs necessary for restoration. Please note that we do not provide estimates without inspecting the item in question first.

Our process would have you send your writing instrument in for service and we will evaluate and provide you with an estimate for the repair.

***When sending in your item we require that you include all of the components of the writing instrument so we can conduct a most thorough assessment.***

If we have necessary parts on hand we can turn around repairs within two weeks or so. If we have to order parts we're seeing 45-60 day wait times due to global shipping delays. Also, MB takes the time and care to handcraft their nibs -- which is a testament to MB’s stellar craftsmanship, but it can take up to 90 days to do. We just want to be transparent with you here.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
