Montblanc Heritage Baby Fountain Pen

Hi,

Sharing some photos of the new release 'Heritage Baby'. Saw one in a MB boutique in London yesterday and seems like they are running low on stock already.

Photos taken in comparison with the Rouge et Noir edition to give a sense of size.

I think its a really nice release and I like that it has a snap cap which is definitely unique compared to most modern MB pens. I do hope they introduce snap caps to more pens in the future. (though you have to thread in the cap for it to post). One drawback of this design is the metal threads on the cap - they definitely scratch the resin unless you do it extremely carefully. I noticed a few scratches on the pen in store.

Nib design is the same as on the Rouge et Noir, 1912 etc, so expect it to be a great writer. Definitely my favourite modern MB nib.

What do you folks think? Anyone excited to pick this up?

Cheers

Cute and above all a Montblanc. Mine was ordered from Appelboom as soon as it was displayed on The German fountain pen forum, just at the beginning of the month. I did opt for the black finish with an F nib. But the ivory is even more elegant and classy.

What made me hesitate purchasing this pen is precisely the snap cap, but I finally gave in for the benefit of the 30grs weight.

The day before I had sworn: no more small pen ever for my big paws. I think we may all have the urge or the compulsion to buy things, and once in a while we ease off. Of course never ever any regret or remorse.

After playing with it I will offer it to my wife, who is progressively loosing the nasty Lamy ball pen proclivity.

What kind of filler? Bottle or cartridge? Converter?

Cartridge. To be specific: ONE (small) standard international cartridge fits in the barrel only. (Which, in itself, I don't find to be a problem, as it should give you some pages to write with before the ink is used up.)

I look forward to seeing these pens in person. I have big hands; a 149 is about right for me. I have always liked my Japanese pocket pens, though. A Pilot M-90 is one of my favorites, and not too small to be useful. Now, it would have been great if they'd included a pocket clip . . . .

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Thanks for the answer Julie. You would think that Montblanc would put basic info like this on their site since it's a pretty important info. I guess it makes sense that just a tiny single cartridge would fit in there. I was hoping that I can at least get a converter in there...

I think the M90 would be slightly easier to use unposted because its slightly longer than the MB Heritage Baby. Please do share your thoughts once you get a chance to try it !

Have you received it yet? What do you think of it so far?

I did find myself using the M-90 unposted from time to time; it was just long enough. I'm going to one of the local MB boutiques today to pick up my Calligraphy 149, just back from service. If they have a Heritage Baby, I'll check it out. So, I guess I'll take an M-90 with me for comparison purposes.

Got mine today. Absolutely beautiful pen, simple in design and so lovely in all its minute detail. Some of lovely little surprises.

The snap cap is unlike any that I have experienced. There is a slow slide and then a crisp catching click. The action is firm and feels like quality.

The barrel is spring loaded pressing down on the cartridge I guess so that the cartridge does not get loose?

My only critique? The snap cap and screw end is a bit hard to remember. I sometimes forget and screw to uncap and pull to unpost. Otherwise an absolute thing of beauty.

Agree with all the comments posted. Very nice pen. Also very happy it is lacquered over metal, like the Heritage snake, so feels nice and solid/heavy for such a small pen.

  • 3 months later...

I have been enjoying my Montblanc Baby since purchasing it and since no one has posted photos off the ivory pen yet I decided to take some the other day to share. It is an adorable pen with a very bouncy nib, perhaps a little less bounce than my Heritage Rouge et Noir in coral but more spring than a standard MB nib. I was fortunate to acquire both the pen and the coral pen case a few months ago. I really love it for taking notes as the snap cap makes it easy. It is a great purse or pocket pen. The spring in the barrel is wonderful and keeps the cartridge in place and it is balanced enough that it does not roll away easily. The Rouge et Noir and Mozart are slightly thinner. Photos show the Ivory alongside other pens for scale. For those curious, the case does also work to hold a Mozart but does not hold the Boheme.

For scale and color, I photographed it with my Boheme Blanche and Rouge et Noir in Coral, as well as alongside a 149 and my Mozart Jewelry. If you like small pens and are able to find one in stock you will enjoy this charming pen!
