What pen(s) are you using today?

While I was checking out Sanzen's Tomoe River 68gsm paper, my PenBBS 480 developed a cracked converter and started leaking.  I read that Hongdian converters would fit and ordered some.  They arrived but they were too tight.  If I turn the converter it unscrews the nib.  😀

I'm still checking out the Nemosine .6 stub nib on a Wing Sung 699.  It's a curious nib because it has no tipping.  It's also slightly too long for a 699 so I have to be careful with the cap.  🤷‍♂️

This morning, the Pelikan M600 red tortoise with Taccia Benitsuchi; now home again and filled the Leonardo MZG nocciola cuspide special edition, Ti <M> CI, with Teranishi Nostalgic Honey. First impression is very positive. This is a surprisingly flexible nib, but not so sensitive that it makes it hard to hold the sweet spot on the italic. Really looking forward to writing more with this in the coming week, and this disposes me very strongly toward trying a standard round-tipped Leonardo titanium nib too.

I was thinking of my Retro 51 Cioppino version 2, with a 1.1mm stub nib. I got it out of a clean pens storage. Just as I was heading to the living room, the tornado siren went off. I headed to the basement. Down there are some inks. I decided to fill the pen with Faber-Castell Violet Blue ink. And now it is my pen of the day.

The sirens didn’t last long. I was watching the local news on my phone. The siren is a block away.

IMG_3812.thumb.jpeg.a043db9536493a4b04e28973cc00c999.jpegPicked up another Sailor Lecoule, this one a clear pen with an MF nib.   I finally found my Sailor Converters and managed to get a nice fill of Wearinguel Hades into it with the shimmer mixed up (I keep forgetting to do that).  It looks amazing, and I think I paid $23 for it.  I guess my May pen lineup will probably tilt a little more modern since that's what I've been using lately.

Just inked up a Pilot Justus 95 MF and an MB 149 Calligraphy curved...two of my favorites.

At Calligraphy Club, I got to try a purple Conklin Durograph with an Omniflex nib, a Magna Carta 650 Endless HATCH project with a lovely flex nib, and a Benu Tribute that was part of their Hidden Gems offerings. I also wrote with my own Brute Force Designs Pequeño with an Ultraflex EF.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 25 currently inked pens:

Parker Duofold Centennial IM, RO Rose Gold Antiqua

MontBlanc Bohème Noir F, MB Midnight Blue

Pelikan M800 needlepoint, Kuretake Shikon

MontBlanc Noblesse M, KWZ Sheen Machine 2

Waterman 52 EF, Herbin Bleu Pervenche

Did you like the Omniflex nib? I was thinking about getting one on a Monteverde next month.

Leonardo MZG in nocciola cuspide acrylic, <M> CI titanium nib, Teranishi Nostalgic Honey;

Parker "51" Signet, <F>, J. Herbin Bleu Verrerie.

The Parker is great.

The MZG, with further use, continues to write pretty well, though I get a very occasional skip on an initial descender. The grind on this nib is also a little weird, to my eye. It looks almost like the flats on the underside of the tipping were produced on each tine separately, and don't form a single plane (nor even parallel planes) even when the two halves of the contact patch are aligned. That might have something to do with the skipping, because it seems I have a slightly low writing angle, and this, being a CI, has a relatively narrow sweet spot on the pitch axis. So far, though, the problem isn't frequent enough to be distracting, and it only happens when writing quickly; since this is a pen that calls for slightly more deliberate writing anyway, I don't think it will be a long-term problem. (But I've experienced enough nibs that are truly flawless writers to feel just a little frustrated when I encounter one that isn't.)

Cleaned out my green/black Pelikan M800 of Diamine Evergreen and refilled it with Monteverde California Teal. The Evergreen looked almost black out of this pen. The California Teal looks much better.

I have a few pens with them, but I had not tried the Durograph model before. They’re ok, they take some time to adjust to your hand, starting off a bit stiff and difficult to flex but become softer as you use them. They are definitely not a true flex nib, but will eventually give some line variation. The nib itself has what I think is a medium fine line to start, so the variation is not super dramatic. Many people I know locally will grind them finer so the line variation is more pronounced. I ground one into a soft stub. I like to use them for shimmer inks. My Impressa currently has BPC Neutron Star Twinkle in it and it’s beautiful.

Today it is the Montblanc Gold Leaf with flex nib, filled with Montblanc Gustav Klimt ink.

I think, these fit excellently together. ;) :)  The blue looks surprisingly well represented although I didn't use any colour correction.

(sorry for the bad light and shadows on the photo)

It is a fantastic pen!!! Could you post some other pictures? Thanks

A series of events made me find the Lamy Safari Neon Coral. I went to the basement to put the matching ink in it. This was last night.

Then I saw water, rain to be specific. It’s coming in through a crack in the wall in the laundry room. I had to put a trash can that was handy for that water coming in. Then to the garage for the squeegee to push water into a drain in the floor. It has rained so much here that the water has nowhere else to go according to the TV meteorologists.

I was looking at Levenger items on sale. I saw the True Writer Elements Air. I bought the fountain pen version previously. It made me go look for the Field Notes where I wrote down my signs. I saw what else I’d written back in 2016 with the Lamy Neon Coral. That’s why I had to find it and fill it. Otherwise I would have gone down to the basement, maybe today, with more of a flood, wet carpet, more of a mess. So I suppose thank you Levenger website.

The Safari Neon Coral is my pen today with 1.1mm italic nib, and the Lamy neon coral ink. It’s cheerful.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
