Montblanc 145 Classique vs Montblanc 147 Traveller

I presently have a 147 Traveller that I really like a lot...... it has what I call a "generous" medium nib which lays down the perfect amount of ink. I am looking to acquire a 145 with a Fine or an Extra Fine nib because I like the way that my smaller 144 with a Fine nib writes for me.  Since the 147 is basically a 146 in size, I want to get the 145 so I can compare all three pens to one another.

Recently grabbed a mint (in box) 147 with leather case. Jesus, it's just great) The nib is F, but compared to my faithful 149 this F is a bit thinner and the 146 format fits better for long writing sessions. As for 145 I feel it quite simple to my feeling and probably would save more to buy another 146 or 149 limited edition.

Are all Montblanc 145 fountain pens classified as a Chopin ?  Is it just the ones in the Chopin commemorative boxed set ?

Good question. The naming is a bit confusing, as the Montblanc site calls the 145 the "classique". However, this isn't quite true to history. Specifically, the Meisterstück 14X line was released with the 142, 144, 146, and 149 in the 1950s.

Montblanc later released a larger version of the 144, the 145 "Chopin" that came with a CD box set. Since then, Montblanc has stopped production of the 144 and renamed the 145 as a part of the Classique line.

More details here:

Montblanc doesn't use the Chopin name anymore, but the pen remains largely the same.

Chopin =145,145=144 with screw cap. It is correct or I'm missing something?

The 144 is a little smaller I think, but yes the generation of 144 before it was discontinued had a snap-on and a gold ring at the end of the section:

The original 144 had a screw-cap, though.
