Just ordered my latest Jinhao 100.  Color is brown, which is an unusual color for a Chinese pen.  They

also now have the 100 in a very dark blue and burgundy colors.  Looking forward to adding the burgundy

red one to my collection

jinhao 100 is my favorite duofold copy by far ...

there are two newer versions kaigelu 316; the gen 2 has black ends; the ends on gen 3 are same as the barrel.

the gen 2 is lighter and more balanced than gen 1 but still much heavier (around 42g) than a duofold or a jinhao. jinhao 100 is almost identical to duofold in weight (28g) and dimensions. the sections of gen2 kaigelu 316, jinhao and duofold are interchangeable!!! i use my duofold sections on my jinhaos.

So I had been wanting one of the cotton candy looking Jinhao 100s for awhile, but I kept putting it off. I read this post and now I finally sent off for one so that I can try my Duofold section in it.

@DiveDr, this is the post that I was referring to in the daily writer thread. This poster is using the Parker nib sections in their pens.

@Penguincollector So I have older Duofolds I believe they are 1980 1990s and the section will fit on the Jinhao but the cap does not fit over it.  I have 3 Kaigelu 316s, will try and then write back.  BTW Centennial with 14 kt. gold nib is awesome, really thin smooth EF flexes out to about 0.9mm so MB and with line variation on normal writing pressures.

It’s on my list to try now for sure!

My Duofold is from 1991, but I don’t know if the 100 is a Jinhao or if it’s something else, which I guess wouldn’t matter if the cap won’t work. I haven’t tried the Kaigelus yet either, or the little mini 100s.

What a shame, although your custom nib is the way to go for sure. I will report back when I attempt it.

Maybe this is the wrong thread for this question but, trying to figure out how the stock Kaigelu 316 nib creates line variation.  Under magnification don't see any tine flex yet the line variation is there... a conundrum indeed!

Question for you all, I am seeing listings for the Jinhao 100 that describes some of them as acrylic and some of them as celluloid. Are there actually celluloid 100s or are they hire more acrylic ones that have been made to look like celluloid? Thanks!

Living in Shanghai now is its easy and cheap for my to order Chinese pens. Just ordered 3 Jinhaos from Taboo and should arrive in the next few days. Lets see if its as good as many mentioned here.

Never heard of a celluloid 100. I dunno. Same price?

Nice thread.  I just got a Jinhao "Classic" from Amazon.  I love it! <F> nib writes right at .5mm and the <M> nib writes right at .7mm. Flow is wet and smooth with both of these nibs on Tomoe River 52gms.

The .7mm <M> line width is a bit too fat for my liking... but the .5mm <F> is just right.

Is there any differentiation between the Jinhao "Classic" and "Centennial" and "100"?

Such a great idea! Do you know if both the Duofold Centennial & International sections can be put on the Jinhao 100 body? I believe the Centennial nibs are a bit longer and the sections are thicker. Thanks

Here's my fourth Jinhao 100, this time in a finish which goes by "Ocean Black" I belive. It's the same (or identical) material as once used on Kaigelu 316, then referred to as "Charcoal Black" - black with greyish chatoyancy, looks really great. Nib swapped for Kaigelu's "Long Knife"

Hate to be the one to spoil the love in for tgis pen, but i was disappointed. In fact; I hate it.

It rattles annoyingly.

The threads on the barrel aren't quite true so it doesn't align, leaving a hairline gap through half of the barrel section join.

The pen can be posted but it will not post deeply making it ridiculously long and unusable in this way.

The balance is just odd (sadly a complaint I have with many Chinese pens)

The nib was shocking. Dreadful, and sadly little tipping to afford a correction.

One good thing.....the resin is lovely. I got the ice flake in pearl with an icy blue veining through it.

I thought Chinese pens were greatly improving on the junk of old, but I have come to believe they are just the same if I'm to judge by recent purchases.

Sorry to hear about this lemon of an experience, Uncial. May your next pen purchase be more rewarding.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
