Montblanc Boheme Disassembled For Cleaning

I was struggling to find a clear set of instructions on how to open the Boheme, but I figured it out based on pictures of disassembled pens. Heres some documentation of how I opened it up, in case it might be of help to others...

Cool! Thanks, Sia! I never took my Bohemes that far before they were re-sold, relying on the concept "not broke; don't fix it" in order to avoid breaking it myself. ;-)

Thanks, Sia.

Always wondered what was going on inside the Bohemes.

Now we know! Nice mechanism. Well done on sorting it out.

And thanks for sharing.

I always wondered too. Now we all know it’s not that hard really :)

Nice to see how the pen comes apart.

FWIW, Montblanc sells a cleaning unit - two to a pack, that fit into the Boheme. It's a hybrid cartridge and pipette that fits on the piercing tube like a cartridge, with the nib unit extended. It contains a cleaning solution, but it can of course be reused. This keeps the inside of the pen dry, and makes it easier to clean for folks who are not mechanically inclined.

This is good to know, Ill tell the owner. In this particular case the pen has to be disassembled because ink leaked all over onto the insides. But if proper pen hygiene is followed and cartridges are changed regularly and the nib is flushed as you suggested this should not be a problem. Thanks for the tip

Thanks for this. I have quite a few Bohemes as it is a pen design that I really like. However trying to change the nib of these pens is simply impossible for the average joe.

What an amazingly clear set of instructions and pictures!! I have a Boheme where the soft plastic sleeve at the base of the ink unit sits free and moves a bit in either direction, towards and away from the nib unit. The result is the following: When I extend the nib unit all the way out, it gets stuck when I'm trying to screw it back in, because this plastic sleeve snags inside the front section. Should it be glued into place instead of being allowed to slide around? Any suggestions? Many thanks!!

Hi, I wouldn’t glue the plastic nib collar (if that’s what you’re referring to). I wish I k we what to advise you but honestly modern pens are not my expertise and so I don’t know exactly what to suggest without examining the pen in my hands. Maybe someone else with more knowledge will contribute 🤞

post some pics - it might help

Thanks for your inputs. I removed the plastic sleeve, works like a charm now. No snagging, no drying, no rattling. Wonder what purpose the sleeve really serves. All good now.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
