Best Scented Inks?

TSherbs

Recommended Posts

I like scented soap and perfume. I thought I might try a few inks made with specific scents added to them (not just regular inks that happen to smell nice). Any recommendations? And how would you describe the scent? Thanks, community!

IMO De Atramentis for sure. Some are a bit off but a lot are quite "authentic" as re scent. Check out this site. (Saves me pasting smells)

Several years ago, I got my daughter a bottle of De Atramentis Violet, which does indeed smell like violets. We also got the Lilac, which was just as aromatic and that she liked better.

I have found other DeA inks to be really wet or feathery, but I am willing to try some samples, for sure.

I could send you a sample of the Lilac if you like. Just PM your address to me

~ Herbin Encre Bleue Parfum Lavande is a nose-pleasing scented ink.

The fragrance is fresh and clean without being overpowering.

It's subtle, yet discernible.

It writes well in both narrow and wide nibs.

I've tried some of the De Atramentis scented inks, but the only one I liked enough to get a full bottle of was Red Roses. Some didn't have enough oomph of scent in the sample vial (like D A Lavender, and Apple Blossom) and some didn't smell anything like what they were supposed to be (D A Patchouli, I''m looking at YOU). I haven't tried all of them, mind -- I avoided the one that was supposed to smell like Lily of the Valley because I can't stand that to begin with, even though I like the flowers otherwise, and was cautious about the one that is supposed to smell like pine; I've also avoided the alcohol-scented ones because that just seems weird.

But Red Roses really smells like what heirloom roses (I mean the ones before the hybrid tea roses came into vogue) are supposed to smell like (okay, not the foetidas, either...).

I think J Herbin Rose scented ink was similar, but I prefer the De Atramentis.

I think I was lucky in that a friend of mine brought a bottle to a pen club meeting, so I got to try it then. If I had just bought a sample of it, the way I did for D A Black Roses, I might not have realized what I was missing (Black Roses is also scented, but you don't get much of the scent from a sample vial, the way you do when actually opening a bottle).

ETA: D A Patchouli, on the other hand, not only didn't smell like patchouli, but actually smelled more like someone's musty basement. :( It's an interesting color, but I haven't been able to figure out if there's an unscented equivalent.

Thanks Tom. Sounds lovely.

From overseas friends I've learned that L’Artisan Pastellier offers a line of Encre Parfumée, scented inks.

I've been told that they're especially high quality, with pleasing scents which aren't cloying or overpowering.

Due to the complicated logistics of receiving overseas ink shipments, it may be many months before they reach me.

I'll remember this thread, reporting back if any of the L’Artisan Pastellier scented inks might be of interest.

+1 for DeAtramentis and J.Herbin.

I also like the ones by Tono & Lims, a Korean company. I have smelled their Apple Cider and Sprite, and both are super-nice. Id love to find more of their ink- they seem to randomly pop up in Japanese stores. Montblanc has a whole line of pricey scented ink, some smells nicer than others. Depending on where you are, Blackstone maybe easy to find?

I LOVE scented ink! I didnt even know that LArtisan Pastillier makes scented ink- I have to look into it. If you are in Europe, ink by Online maybe easy to find? Their ink are quite nice. They used to have boring wimpy blue ink with scent, but now they have better colors...

None, I avoid scented products as much as possible, due to scent sensitivities. The last thing I need is to be surrounded by scented ink as well.

Get any Sailor. Nothing beats phenol. I guess I need a doctor.

Seeking a Parker Duofold Centennial cap top medallion/cover/decal.
My Mosaic Black Centennial MK2 lost it (used to have silver color decal).

Preferably MK2. MK3 or MK1 is also OK as long as it fits.
Preferably EU.

De Atrementis Blackberry is a lovely colour and smells delicious. The only problem is that when I put it in a pen it makes me hungry.

Blackberry is indeed lovely.

I just wish the scent would actually linger on the paper longer. Smelling it while you write is great but it would be better if you could smell it on the paper even a few days later.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
