Lamy Studio 2019 Family Portrait

An update to my 2018 family portrait, with three new additions, bringing the total to 20. I now have every variant of this pen ever produced (that I've been able to discover)!

The new 2019 Aquamarine special edition is particularly gorgeous, a vibrant, metallic turquoise with the same “rough pottery” textured finish as last year's Terracotta Orange and Olive Green special editions. It's very close to unseating the Wild Rubin as my favourite edition of the Studio.

 

The new 2019 Lx All Black special edition is a lovely stealth pen – the black hardware is very handsome (and hopefully will resist wear and scratches), and a nicer way to get the same grippy black section that was previously only available on the stainless steel model. The black-coated nib looks great on it too.

 

The 2009 China-exclusive Pearl Black is nearly identical to the Piano Black, but with subtle sparkles embedded in the finish. I never thought I'd find it, but a retiring LAMY collector here on FPN was kind enough to reach out to me and offer me this impossible-to-find pen! If you're reading this, thank you again! :)

Thanks for posting. That aquamarine really is an eye-catching colour. I can't wait to see it live.

 

How did you find the LX black? I've heard that it's lighter at the front end than previous models (something about the section not being made of metal).

Yes, the All Black has the same light, plastic section as the Stainless Steel. I find if very pleasant to write with.

I got my first Lamy Studio this past week. It is the Olive version. I put a 1.1mm nib on it, and did not like the writing. I realized this nib was not great on the previous pen I had it on. So I think I have a nib with an issue. I put a 1.5mm nib on the Studio, and got much better results.

 

The Imperial Blue looks like a nice shade. Well, and others too.

I had no idea that the Lamy Studio had been made in such a wide range of colors.

Last evening the daughter of an FPN friend surprised me with the gift of a Lamy Studio Imperial Blue EF.

What a lovely family of Studios, and I agree on the Aquamarine! A really nice color and texture. I liked it so much, I bought the ballpoint as well. My family of Studios is a lot smaller, but it includes Piano Black, Terracotta, Olive, and now Aquamarine.

 

I am new around this forum, so can someone point me to a few other popular "Studio Fan" threads as well? I am fairly new to the Lamy brand (tried my first one less than two years ago), but after trying several models, I landed quickly on the Studio as my favorite Lamy for EDC. I find it a gorgeous clean design, in lots of fun colors, with great metallic construction and a nice trade-off of a luxury feel and a (reasonably) economical price point.

Something yellow(ish) would be interesting to me as well.

 

As I pull out my "Teracotta" Studio just now, to my eye, it is as close to a pure copper color as one is likely to find.

 

jcoersen, what kind of copper did you have in mind? something with a pure copper metal coating, that will patina over time? That would be quite interesting. It would also have the side benefit of being antimicrobial. My problem would be that I would be obsessed with keeping it brightly polished.

 

If the "real copper" part is more important than the pen design, there is a solid copper pen, based on a Caran d'Ache chassis, offered here.

I would like a solid copper Studio, i have 2 solid copper pens (a Namisu Nova and a Kaweco Liliput) and i love how they change colour over time.

That made me think that this would look great on a Studio.

Yes, I have used almost all of these. The only two I probably wouldn't use are the Royal Red and the original Blue.

 

The Royal Red's body's finish chipped off at the join between the cap and body after I re-capped the pen a few times when I first used it. LAMY service replaced it for me with zero fuss (I was relieved that they had a replacement in stock back in Heidelberg!), but I think I'll baby it from now on.

 

The original Blue's finish is notorious for deteriorating into a rubbery, sticky mess. I'm not sure if this comes from exposure to air or light or what, but I'm keeping it wrapped in plastic and stored away in the hopes of preserving it.
