What are the differences between them and how common are NOS examples of each?

Thanks.

I have a 12, a 14 and a 34. The 12/14 for me are the pinnacle of that series: 18K butter soft nibs that are exquisite to write with. NoS will cost you though. If you are willing to buy a used one, you will pay a lot less (and likely find one sooner) and--as long as it is from a reputable seller--not really own any less of a pen.

Vintage. Cursive italic. Iron gall.

12x pens of the first generation have stiff nibs; 12x pens of the second generation are more soft.

2x or 1x pens usually have semi-flex nibs with very nicely cut tipping.

On all B, BB or oblique nibs usually have a stub like character.

I prefer the 2x or 1x series in terms of writing quality.

And I like the overall design of the older 2x or 1x series better. Also ink windows became brittle on most 12x pens.

But all pens are easy to service and parts are available. Fairly easy to find.

Metal cap or not? That's up to your personal taste.

Cheers

Michael

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've decided to look for a NOS 14 or 74 in EF.

And I have found one but before I bid I have a few questions.

I am planning to EDC the pen in a Pelikan 3 pen pencase along with a Montblanc 149 and Pilot Custom 743/Parker 45/Omas Paragon which will mean that it'll be quite a squeeze to fit this pen in. Is the 1950s/60s resin too fragile for this?

Are vtg MB EF nibs very scratchy?

Any special maintenance needs for this pen?

Will $150 AUD ($104 US, 92 Euroes) be enough to win an auction of this pen?

Thanks.

I like the EF nibs and most are not scratchy.

NOS 74 usually are in the 150 € range so good luck.

I would not squeeze any pen ;-)

No special maintenance if every works properly...

Cheers

Ok, thanks for the info. Good point with not squeezing the pens, I should probably use my Wancher 4 pen case, and then I'd have space for a pencil as well.

Thanks.

Sorry to bother you guys again, but I just found a NOS Pelikan M30 in EF, it look rather similar to the 14 I was planning to bid on but at half the price. Should I get this instead?

one is not like the other.. I have the M30/60 and 24/744/124 and I usually gravitate towards the 24.

Any thoughts on the 124 celluloid? I haven’t been able to find much info. I read the linked article above but didn’t see anything about it, unless user error. 😂

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
