Tried The 149 Sketchbook/notebook?

I am thinking of buying this product for my daily journal.

Does the paper perform well with wet fountain pens - no bled through, feathering, etc? Writing on Tomoe River (TR) paper is the best writing experience for me - is the paper in the 149 book anywhere close to TR?

I have moleskin, clairefontane, and Rhodia pads - of the three I like Rhodia. But still TR is my first choice.

Thanks!

I haven't tried the 149, only the 146. I like the paper a lot, it is a bit off-white and with a little bit of feedback, unlike Clairefontaine and Rhodia, which I've grown to dislike. From what I've tried, I can compare it to Leuchtturm, which you don't list as having tried, unfortunately. And I haven't tried TR either. :)

So all in all, the Montblanc paper is definitely not as smooth and glossy as Rhodia/Clairefontaine, it has a decent (read: good) amount of feedback and from what I've tried, it handles my pens perfectly. The wettest and widest I tried is a 149 with a B nib, but I guess it's ground more like a BB, as its line is around .9-1.0 mm. Absolutely no feathering, ghosting etc, using MB inks (I haven't tried others).

However, be aware that in my connected discussion, there were unsatisfactory reports as well.

So let's wait what others have to say as well. I, for one, would buy another 146 or 149 notebook in a heartbeat, it's my favourite type of paper: off-white ("ivory") and with a bit of feedback and no gloss.

Without having actually writing in a 149notebook but having felt them. Im going to start off with I believe all of MB notebooks use the same base paper.

I have a few smaller notebooks that were gifted to me with pen purchases.

I find the paper holds up well with MB inks. My pens vary with OM, OB, and OBB. The OBB is a wet writer I get no feathering dry time is a little long but thats expected.

The paper is not as smooth as rhodia. It has what I would consider a good amount of bite, or feel too it. Its definitely high quality and ivory, but a light ivory. The pages have the MontBlanc star watermarked on them and silver edging.

The lined notebooks are a little wider ruled than I normally like but its still a good notebook with a classic look.

I tend to prefer rhodia or llechturm 1917 (sp). But the MB is a good notebook.

I have not really noticed ghosting but I dont want to say with 100% certainty at this time as I have not been using the MB notebooks much recently as I hadnt fully finished the current notebooks I was using.

One of the MB I received I use as an ink/pen tracker. I jot down a little note with ink changes and new pens.

What type of paper does the notebook use? Is it on par with the higher-quality papers that we all love, or is it more of a "you're paying for the name alone" type of situation?

I, for one, found it very enjoyable, thicker and a bit more feedbacky than Leuchtturm. The watermark branding is a bit cheesy, though, but not very visible or distracting in any way, I would say.

Its definitely high quality paper. 100gsm. Which would be thicker than rhodia/lechturm.

I will say the reason I have any of their notebooks is that they were gifted to me. They are very nice pieces but Im not sure its worth the cost of entry. That said I do feel theres a bit of an extra cost for the name.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
