Weird Stains “Under The Skin” (M805 Stresemann)

Hi, I was pretty happy with my new Pelikan M805 Stresemann (my second M800 - I couldn't resist the grey stripes!!). But very unfortunately it has developed some nasty stains, apparently *within* the walls of the barrel.

I've attached a photo that shows the problem. This is a *completely full* pen. If they were regular ink stains, then I don't think that they would be visible with a filled barrel. This is only the 3rd time I've ever filled the pen. And the only ink I've ever used is Aurora Black!!! Weirdly the ink seems to creep up in the celluloid material..? You can see that especially at the base of the barrel, where it meets the black section. Frustrating... I got the pen for a good price from Cult Pens, and did email them about this, but have never gotten any response.

Would much appreciate your advice! Has anyone ever witnessed anything similar?

Either your pen has a cracked you can't see in the section letti g ink seep out or you really dip your pen far into an ink bottle to fill. The celluloid is just a sleeve.

humm, thanks for the quick response zaddick. Even if i had dipped it THAT far down, where does the stain 1/3 up the barrel come from?

Do you think there's any way to clean/fix this?

It's possible capillary action would draw it up, then partially dry so it is a separate section. But I am guessing it is a defect in the body of the pen or the connection with the section letting ink to the space behind the celluloid binde.

Contact Pelikan Germany.

It may take some persistence to get them to answer, but in the end they will fix it for you (for free).

If under warrantee, Chartpack ..the Pelikan distributor/repair in the States should do so, but if they mention $, go Pelikan Hanover.

Chartpack does not have a good name here....if the pen is not still under warrantee.

He bought the pen from Cult Pens, so Chartpak probably won't honor the warranty. I'd go straight to Pelikan Germany. They are just going to give you a new pen barrel. I'd ask if you can keep the nib in your possession so you don't chance it getting swapped out too by accident (especially if you like the way it writes).

Edit: I'd email Cult Pens again...and again. They will respond eventually; probably just a fluke that you haven't heard back yet.

CultPen just reaponded and invited me to send them the fountain pen. Will do that and take if from there (all the cost savings from buying from them will probably go away in shipping...)

There’s a pretty good chance Cult Pens will refund your shipping costs. They did so for me in a similar situation.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
