Montblanc M Product Red And Ultra Black

I have recently had all three colour variations of the M, initially the shiny resin black but I traded this to fund a new ultra black (much nicer, and a smoother nib) and then took advantage of a recent sale to purchase a RED rollerball as a Christmas gift for my wife.

 

I could not resist comparing the UB and RED alongside each other, and getting to the bottom of the magnetic posting (which the RB has but the FP does not). I can confirm that the RB barrel has a magnet in the end of it, as a result weighs 2g more, and does not accept a spare cartridge if used on the FP.

 

The ultra black FP cap does post on the RB barrel, so it is purely the addition of these magnets in the barrel. Although they post, they are not as secure as a normal Meisterstuck when posted, as only held in place by the magnet with no friction, it therefore moves a bit in the hand which may be a turnoff for those that post. I do not, but like the feature on the RED as it shows off the magnets again.

Im excited to see the red in person. Some pics show it as bright red, whereas others a deeper richer tone. Its very pretty nonetheless and it may very well be my 1st cartridge fountain pen

It is a deep red, it would look even better if it was also matt, but even so I do like the colour.

The ultra black FP cap posts, it is using the clip I think. The magnets on the RB are in the barrel end which would get in the way of the spare cartridge on the FP.

I bought the red rollerball yesterday when visiting my local store. I hadn't planned on getting this pen but was seduced by its beautiful red color and the sensuous feel of the magnetic cap. In your hand, it's lovely and the reasonable price sealed the deal.
