Patron Of Art Homage To Ludwig Ii Limited Edition 4810

I’m holding out for an albatross. (Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner) Swans are too tame for me and castles overrated once one sees the heating bills.

Proximity to Disney totally ruins this for me as I live in dread of the “feminine” pink-skirted princess version MB is bound to decide I need.

~ Ghost Plane:

There's many birds from which to choose, ranging from the elegant to the cartoonish.

• Keats’ Ode to a Nightingale

• Shelley's To a Skylark

• Beatrix Potter contributes Jemma Puddle-duck

• Jonathan Livingston Seagull, anyone?

• Sesame Street's Big Bird for a long yellow pen

• Woody Woodpecker

Yet the consensus choice may be:

• Roadrunner — a pen made with Arizona petrified wood Beep Beep!

Ludwig was entranced by Lohengrin and hence the swan reference. Wagner was the condor that wooshed in to strip the bones.

~ Reed_thoughts:

I've likewise wondered what color “Swan Illusion” ink might be.

The only place I saw this posted online was the Deutschland Montblanc Web site.

The German information about the ink tells much, but not the color.

It looks dark in the bottle. A tint of grey? Silvery brown?

As those colors interest me, I'm eager to hear from anyone who has seen it or knows more.

Tom K.

Not much to add to the discussion...a silvery brown would be my guess...or perhaps a browny silver.

We'll just have to await the first purchaser to post some swabs or swatches of colour!

The swan references derive from the residences of Ludwig and his family dating back to the 12th century. He grew up in Schloss Hohenschwangau (schwan the German form of swan),and the fairytale castle he built, Neuschwanstein (New Swan Stone in German) is built on the site of one of the previous castles named for a swan, and in fact overlooks his boyhood home and village of Hohenschwangau below. The Lohengrin saga was depicted in artwork throughout the Hohenschwangau castle and gardens at the behest of Ludwig’s father, when he rebuilt the castle in the early 19th century. Perhaps Wagner had an agenda when selecting the tale for his opera, suspecting a swan motif may have had an intrinsic appeal to the Bavarian royals, since they already appeared enamored with the bird for centuries, and royal patronage never hurt.

I told Ghost Plane that I'm partial to paler colors.

Why? I'm uncertain, but it may be because their faded look reminds me of older documents.

A silvery brown would be quite a color for sketching.

For the same reason that sepia tone sketches appeal to me, this ink might find a place in my ink desk.

Thank you.

This is one ink which I'd purchase if it was a paler hue.

The name “Swan Illusion” is intriguing.

Whatever you find out will be interesting.

The ink is grey, just picked one up.

Thank you for confirming that.

The dreams of a pale silver brown will wait for another year.

~ Now that it's been established that Montblanc “Swan Illusion” ink is grey, I wondered what is the name of the color on the box, rather than the ink itself.

It's a color that I've sometimes seen worn by others on safari. It's also cropped up in Pre-Colombian art.

An Internet source calls it “Grayish orange”. Who knew?

The Patek, definitely.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

@pravada please provide a swab sample... was excited about this ink, thinking it would be paler camel brown colour.

@ tom - in India the drawer colour would we called "khaki" colour. the colour of Indian police uniform...the colour also resembles jute fibers.

I will take another Patek home definitely yet later this time. I was deeply attracted by the 888 at first glance. The design of the 18k gold skeleton is harmonious , the top of the cap is matte platinum plated which adds elegance, and the curve of the clip is the most beautiful I've ever seen. I am glad I made the decision to buy the 888 first.

I kind of like the regular one more than the 888 edition. Does anyone have more real life pictures :)?

I think the pen will go really nice with simple regular royal blue ink...have to visit the MB on Friday...let's see if they have it

I love the skeletonized barrel on this one but am not sure of the sure of plating done on the crown and clip. Plating should be reserved for 4810 versions. I am guessing the piston is not solid gold either. I do like the look, mind you but doesnt justify the price tag at all with minuscule amount of precious metals used.
